Meliora Sequamur Awards

We recently celebrated the annual Meliora Sequamur Awards. 'Meliora Sequamur' is our school motto, and translates to 'Let us follow the better path'. In these awards, we recognise students who 'follow the better path' through contribution to the school or broader community, or through significant personal growth. Students who hold formal leadership positions are not eligible for the awards: they are explicitly about honouring the quiet leadership actions which often go unnoticed. They are a brilliant example of the range of ways in which our students live our school values of Humanity, Fairness, Curiosity and Achievement.

These awards are particularly special as they are nominated by other students (including the school leaders) and by staff. The awards ceremony is always extremely moving, as nominators speak directly about their nominee and the reasons for the award.

This years' awards were no exception. We honoured resilience and growth in the face of personal difficulties, kindness and compassion to fellow students, achievement in the arts, sport and political realms, students who set examples for others through their involvement and encouragement and students who consistently support school activities and events behind the scenes. Tears flowed as staff and students spoke from the heart to the wide range of award winners. 

The ceremony was ably hosted by student leaders Kitty Robinson, Tilda Exton and Peter Panopoulos, and featured a musical performance by Will Leslie (who was also an award recipient). Congratulations to our 2019 award recipients:
