Volleyball-a-thon
Tired but happy teams
On Wednesday 18 October, the Year 9 and Year 10 girls' volleyball teams competed in a 12-hour Volleyball-A-Thon, arriving at school at 7am and finishing at 7pm. The two teams first played against each other, then throughout the day helped out teaching volleyball in various PE classes. Ms Malcolm helped us recharge by taking us through a yoga/meditation session at recess.
The highlight of the day was the lunchtime match against the teachers. After hard-fought sets, both teams managed to overcome the staff squad. In a quote from Lucinda Symons, the teachers were “shaking and crying ”. The teachers are keen for a rematch!
In the evening both teams played an exhibition match against the Heidelberg Div 3 U15 team. The games produced some quality volleyball and really flexed their mental muscles in the face of exhaustion. The volleyball-a-thon was created to raise funds for the December trip to the Gold Coast, in order to compete in the National Volleyball Competition. In total, the teams raised $2500 with some individuals collecting pledges of $400. Thanks to everyone who sponsored players and came and supported the teams throughout the day!
