Student Reflection on the Alpine School for Leadership

The Alpine School for Student Leadership is an initiative of the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET), developed as a unique and life-changing experience for Year 9 students and schools. Students are encouraged to engage in a community learning project during their time at the Alpine School Campus. Year 9 students, Josh, has shared with us some of the key highlights of his experience so far.

I have been having a great time here meeting lots of new people and making all new friends, I already know this was a great choice for me and I will come out with lots of new skills in leadership as well as skills in collaborating and solving conflict and more.
Although I do miss my family and friends back home, I have not been completely homesick because I have had wonderful supporting people all around me who have really helped me through any trouble I have faced, and I have been trying to give back to them when they are feeling down as well. I helped my expo group build a bridge across a hypothetical rapid flowing flooded river as well as climbed Mount Donna Buang to the summit it was cold, and we all had to rug up well and I got a leech on my finger I called it Jake.

A couple of weeks ago, I was sick and had to go home for a few days for a (negative) covid test. I came back eager to learn and get back with my new friends who all gave me a warm welcome back. I have been working on my CLP which is going to be a collection box for oral care products such as toothbrushes, floss, and electric toothbrush heads.
I have attached some photos of my group up the top of the tower at Mt Donna Buang as well as us building our bridge. As well as a link to the sign-up page for TerraCycle because I cannot sign up as I'm not 18 so I was wondering if you could sign our school up for a collection box it is free and there is a spot to take everything that is collected just down the road from DSC in Doncaster Park.
