Congratulations to the following students on their fine achievements.

HAVE SUM FUN MATHS COMPETITIONS

Congratulations to our talented mathematicians who represented All Saints’ College in the annual Have Sum Fun Maths competitions. The competition is run by the Mathematical Association of WA and teams battle it out in a quiz-style format with four rounds of eight questions.

The students from Years 11 and 12 competed at John Curtin College of the Arts on Friday, 12 March and won with a perfect score of 32 out of 32 beating Applecross Senior High School, Kelmscott Senior High School and Melville Senior High School who comprised the top four teams.

The following Friday saw the Years 7 and 8 team compete at John Curtin while the Years 9 and 10 team remained at the College as we were the hosting school for this division. Both teams beat 30 other teams including Applecross Senior High School, Aquinas College, Trinity College and Scotch College in their respective divisions to complete the trifecta.

To win a single division is quite a challenge but to win all three divisions has only been done on one other occasion in the history of the competition.

Many thanks to Mr Phil Brockbank (Head of Mathematics), Ms Kellie Knoblauch and Ms Hannah Mast (Mathematics teachers) who helped to run the competition and support students at various venues.

Well done to the following students for their tremendous efforts:

Year 7 / 8 Team - Felicia Ho, Jessie Lau, Tejas Morisetty, Xavier Smith, Callum Tang and Ivan Ung

Year 9 / 10 Team - Kerry Cao, Jing Quan Chong, Aaliyah Kadir, Shaurya Kaushal, Jason Shan and Ben Tang

Year 11 / 12 Team - Nikita Arun, Xiaoyu Chen, Julius Clegg, Lucas Ho, Madhav Rajesh, Michelle Thesman

BRIGHT SPARKS TAKE OUT THIRD PLACE IN SYNERGY SCHOOLS SOLAR CHALLENGE

Last Thursday, we were excited to host on campus the south metro Synergy Schools Solar Challenge! We welcomed hundreds of Year 6 and 8 students from 64 schools across Perth to take part in this year's event––a joint initiative of the Science Teachers Association of WA and Synergy.

Congratulations to the two Year 8 teams from All Saints' College who took part, and to one of the teams who placed third; narrowly missing out on a spot in the Grand Final later this month. The team consisted of Sascha Halliday, Felicia Ho, Paula Krause and Amelia O'Keefe.

Students' STEM knowledge and teamwork skills were put to the test as they worked collaboratively in small teams to build and race solar-powered miniature model cars throughout the day.

Congratulations to Noah Dean (Year 9) and Mitch McKell (Year 12) who are competing in the 2021 Australian Age Swimming Championships next month. The Championships take place from 5–12 April on the Gold Coast, and form part of the selection process for the international junior benchmark events for 2021.

The boys, who will take part in various events in their age groups, had to achieve competitive times in their events to be eligible to compete. Mitch says he is looking forward to the experience and being able to race against swimmers from all over Australia.

We wish Noah and Mitch the best of luck with their training and preparation!
