Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week our staff worked with our Grade 6 children around the theme of leadership. Unfortunately we lost a day last week due to bad weather, however we look forward to getting out to Forrest in Term 2. I did take the opportunity to speak with the children about “Authentic Leadership” and “Servant Leadership” Our school prayer concludes with the reference to “Jesus our role model”, and my image of Jesus’ leadership comes from the Last Supper when he stoops to wash the feet of his friends. An apt reference in Holy Week, surely.

SCHOOL LEADERS  As part of this week’s activities the Year 6 children chose their House leaders for 2021. Congratulations to the following children:

Arundell (Gold House) - Audrey Foley, Ruby Fountain, Darcy Foster & Jarvis Holland; For Mercy (Red House) - Harmony Parker, Millie Seuren, Jayden Finn & Aubrey Melville Marion (Blue House) - Kieley Green, Tahli Inguanti, Reagan Oborne & Izaac Tate.

We will be presenting these children to the school at the first assembly for Term 2, (when  we hope to be able to invite parents to join us again.)

SOCIAL MEDIA AND KIDS - They shouldn’t mix. Trust me - without exception.

Primary school children, the age group I have taught and managed for 36 years, are not emotionally equipped to handle the judgements and opinions that flow freely in this digital world. Neither are they qualified to pass judgements on others.

Children at our school are reporting that they sneak their device into their bedrooms and are messaging (tormenting) others way past their bedtimes.

We, the adults, have to take responsibility for protecting our vulnerable and precious children. Eating disorders, self harm and worse should be serious concerns for all parents as kids negotiate the tricky teenage years when the opinions of their peers will mean a lot more to them than the opinions of parents and teachers. Shielding them from the thoughtless opinions of immature keyboard operators is a practical step we can take.

According to sociologists, while boys and girls are susceptible to the online threats it’s our girls who are at the greatest risk.

This morning I found this article of the ABC website

EASTER RAFFLE Thank you to everyone that has donated prizes for the Easter Raffle - every donation buys a ticket in the raffle. The raffle will be drawn at Thursday’s assembly.

SCHOOL PHOTOS Parents will receive details about school photos to be taken on Friday April 23rd (FIRST Friday of second term.) today.  Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate older siblings from Trinity College being included in family photos, it causes great disruption in both schools.

END OF TERM ARRANGEMENTS Term 1 will conclude this coming Thursday at

2:25pm.  Children may wear casual clothes to school on Thursday.

School will resume on Monday 19 April.
