Physical Vibe News

It has been a very busy few weeks with lots of events happening in the world of Physical Vibe. All year levels are to be commended on their attitude towards having a go in all lessons with the focus on trying your personal best at all times. Check out some recent photos of student being active and having fun!

Australian Athlete visit - Brooke Stratton

On Tuesday both year 6 classes were lucky enough to listen to a presentation by Australian long jumper Brooke Stratton. It was part of the Victorian Institute of Sports ‘Be Fit, Be Well’ Program.

Brooke spoke about her journey from participating in little athletics all the way to her experience at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio. She shared with the students the importance of being resilient and being able to bounce back when things don't go your way.

Brooke holds the current Australian long jump record - a whopping 7.05 metres. What a loooooonnnnggggggg way that is! (Measure it out!)

The students were also lucky enough to be able to hold and even wear her 2018 Commonwealth Games Silver Medal. Check out the photos, it was such a cool experience and the students were grinning from ear to ear.

We wish Brooke all the best at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics - all of Cranbourne South will be cheering for her!

House Cross Country

On Wednesday the whole school braved the weather to compete in the House Cross Country. It was so nice to finally have parents and guests back on site cheering the students on. A massive thankyou to our wonderful volunteers who came prepared with coats and umbrellas in hand.

In a day where trying your best and having a go was the main priority all students should be proud of earning points for their house. It was a tight race with Wiiny holding a slight lead after the morning session however things changed in the middle session with it coming down to the very last race. The final results were:

Equal 3rd - Wiiny and Munmut on 98 points

2nd - Biik on 99 points

1st - Baany on 109 points

The event also doubled as selection trials for the District Cross Country for students in the 9/10, 11, and 12/13 yr races. Those students who have qualified will be informed by the end of term.

Looking forward to our next event - House Athletics in term 2!

Southern Metro Regional Swimming

On Monday five of our swimmers headed off to compete in the Southern Metro Regional Swimming carnival at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. The experience itself for all of them was amazing and they represented both the school and themselves with such pride and passion. A big congratulations to AArizona, Jesse, Ben, Tye and Kade. Thankyou to our travelling cheer squad that not only helped get them there on the day but also cheered enthusiastically.

Indigenous Inspired Art

Learning about Indigenous artwork and their culture has been such a special unit of work for all year levels.

In the Junior School, we read Dreamtimes stories such as 'The Rainbow Serpent' and 'How the Birds got their Colours'.  They enjoyed taking their shadow puppet birds outside and interacting with other colourful birds on the ground.

The Year 6's were fortunate enough to make their own inspired didgeridoos. They used symbols and patterns to create their own dreamtime stories. It was wonderful to watch them present their artwork to the class in a respectful manner.

Environmental Studies

Solar Power - Our hypothesis was correct, you can make a smore in a homemade solar oven!

NATURE PLAY

Will it float or sink? We had some rich discussions about what will float and why.

We also enjoyed making some nature art.

KITCHEN GARDEN

Apples apples and more apples, we have been picking, peeling and cooking them! In the garden we are preparing the beds and have used pruned apple branches to make chew toys for rabbits.
