Junior Class - Mrs Creek

We have enjoyed a rather comical story this week called ‘The Rattletrap Car’.  Just as well that our cars are not like this old one, or we would never be able to drive anyone without something happening on our journey.  I’ll let your child tell you the five things that went wrong on the way to the lake.  It was also fun to act this out in class.  Mathematics language compares objects that are long, short, thick or thin, as well as counting patterns, more/less, and addition.  I am super impressed with our class writing sessions.  Every day, each student is gaining writing confidence.  Mother’s day surprises are being planned and we hope you enjoy our afternoon tea.

Middle Class - Miss Williams

This week the Middles have been reading a book called ‘Fluke.’  It is about a whale who was born in Sydney Harbour and got separated from his mother, before he was reunited with her.  Such a lovely book about a mother to read before Mother’s Day.  We have been looking at the author’s purpose of texts and their intended audience as well during the reading hour.  In Writing we have been practicing and revising narrative texts this week and have been writing some wonderful stories.  In maths we have finished off Stepping Stones module 3, having done the post test and have started module 4 with a pre test.  We will be up to lesson 3 of module 4 by Friday afternoon.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother’s day weekend and spends some lovely time with their families.

Senior Class - Miss Walker

This week we explored a letter to the editor about ‘space junk’.  The author explained how poorly misunderstood the issue is and how continuing to send orbits and satellites into space is preposterous.  Did you know that there are an estimated 500,000 objects - broken rockets, redundant satellites, metal frames, paint chips and so on, whizzing around the Earth at 30,000 km per hour?  The author argued that international treaties need to be put in place, forcing countries to clean up the mess they’ve made in space.  In writing, we have continued voicing our opinions with persuasive writing and writing about topics such as zoos and the best place to play.  In Maths, everyone has been focused on measuring mass.  Some have been working on converting measurements and some have been learning about gross and net mass.  We’re also very excited to see some Mothers in our school today.

Little Joey

This week we continue to acknowledge the significant role of the "Brown Joeys" in the establishment of St Patrick's School, and recognised Gu Thay Paw and Riley P with Little Joey awards.  Our Little Joeys receive a certificate, sticker and a voucher/goods donated by a local business.  This week's vouchers were donated by Wimmera Bakery and Cambrelle's.  We are very grateful for the contributions from our local businesses.
