Mental Health - Parent and Carer Workshop

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am writing to you with regards to one of the objectives the school set for our 2021 Mental Health Plan. This term during weeks 6, 7, 9 and 10 we have arranged for every student in our school to receive a workshop that addresses the important issue of Mental Health and Wellbeing.

The student workshops: “Let’s Talk About It: Mental Health” will be provided by the Headspace Mental Health Education Program and will cover:

  • Developing an understanding of mental health and wellbeing
  • Strengthening mental fitness and exploring the ‘stress bucket’
  • Healthy coping strategies
  • Options for seeking support

We hope that this session is beneficial for all our students, and that it increases their insight with regards to wellbeing as well as help seeking behaviour.

If you have any concerns about your child participating please reach out to their Team Leader to discuss.

The school would also like to warmly welcome all parents/carers to also attend a free workshop which will compliment the information being provided to our students.

The Parent and Carer Workshop: Supporting young people – Notice Ask, Connect will include information about:

  • mental health and wellbeing in adolescence
  • strategies to connect and communicate with your adolescent
  • supporting your adolescent
  • information about where to access support services

The parent/carer workshops will take place at the school on:

Monday 24th May from 6pm to 7:30pm

Tuesday 1st June from 1:30pm to 3pm

Places are limited, so please register quickly to secure your place.

You can do so by emailing Ballarat High School your request through to ballarat.hs@education.vic.gov.au. Please put Parent Mental Health Workshop in the heading and indicate the names of the adults who would like to attend.

Once you have registered we will send through a confirmation and further details.

We look forward to seeing you there!
