Spec Sport 2021

We had a very busy end of Term 1 in Specialist Sport. In Week 9, Term 1 the Yr 9 Specialist Sport students were lucky to be paid a visit from Carly James and Emily Hamilton-Smith, two hockey athletes from the Victorian Institute of Sport. Carly and Emily spoke about their sporting pathways to reach the elite level, balancing sport-work commitments and the demands of playing at the highest level. We thank those athletes for making the trip to Ballarat and the VIS for providing these opportunities.

Also in Week 9 our Yr 7 Specialist Sport students completed a prac night run by Chris Radford from Radford Athletic Development. Chris is an experienced Strength and Conditioning Coach who took the students through a practical presentation on preparing their bodies for sport. Students were educated on proper warm up strategies, recovery techniques and training various athletic skills such as speed and agility. Thanks to Chris for taking the time to come run this practical session.

In Week 10 of Term 1 our Yr 10 Specialist Sport students went to Llanberris Athletics Track to assist running the Miners Rest Primary School Athletics Carnival. Students were responsible for running various athletics events throughout the day for Prep-6 students. Feedback from the school was fantastic and we thank the Yr 10’s for doing such a terrific job.
