Peterborough Art Prize Opening Night

Stage 2 Integrated Learning Home Economics students are required to do a Connections / Group task for this subject and for the last 12 years, we have planned and prepared the Finger Food for the Opening Night of the Peterborough Art Prize. Last year we hit a snag and because of COVID Restrictions, the Art Prize did not run.

In 2021, the Art Prize was able to go ahead and the Stage 2 students once again planned and prepared the finger food for this event. The Art prize organisers advised us that they had invited 140 people to the opening and there were 130 replies saying people would attend.

With some COVID restrictions still in place the students had to plan to put the food they prepared, into individual containers and not walk around the Art Prize with platters of food as we had done in the past.

The planning for this event started very early in Term 1 and the preparation of food, which could be frozen, shortly after that. Alex, Kyla and Logan planned seven pieces of different finger foods per person meaning they needed to prepare close to 1,000 pieces of food for the Opening night.

The week before the opening night was a very busy one for the three students who managed to complete all of the food preparation they planned and had the volume of food they needed ready for the opening night.

With the help of eight Year 10 students, they worked from 4pm in the afternoon to complete the final food preparation and get the food ready to be served by 6pm for 130 people.

An awesome feat and one of which they should be justifiably proud.

Thank you to Madeline T, Lilly-Rose T, Tara H/P, Davina B, Kathy D, Ebony M, Miki W and Jordyn G for helping the Year 12 students out on the night. Not only did the Year 10 students help us out they also completed the Volunteering section of one of the PLP Assignments they will do in Semester 2.
