Sports

End of Term 1

Brentwood students have taken full advantage of the opportunities to be involved in organised sport during term 1. It has been pleasing to see students attend selection trials and training sessions to make it into a school team. Many students have also applied to be a student leader, within sport, as a student coach.

Getting involved in sport has many benefits for a student. Students can learn new skills, make new friends, develop rapport with staff members outside the classroom, improve their level of physical activity, builds confidence, teamwork, leadership, social skills, and improves their overall level of health.

Our whole school carnivals, swimming and athletics, had students bursting with energy to compete and earn points for their Houses. Waratah won the House Swimming sports and Wattle won the House Athletics sports. Well done!

Our Swimmers competed at Monash Division and won the Junior shield and are the current Monash Division Champions! Well done! We sent a large team to EMR swimming and have one student who has qualified to compete at the SSV State Championships. Congratulations Dylan Lam, in Year 8, who will compete in the 14 years 50m Breastroke early next term.

Brentwood has a lot of student talent and we are a strong school when competing within the Monash Division team competitions. We have 18 teams that have now won through to compete at EMR competitions later in the year.

A special mention goes to the Senior Boys Cricket team and the Senior Boys Tennis team who were runners up at EMR this term. Thank you to Mr Peter Rhodes and Mr Edin Selimovic who coached these teams. The Senior Girls Tennis Team are the EMR Champions and will now be competing at SSV State Championships in term 2! This team is managed by Mr Kieran Shah. Best of luck!

Thank you to the staff members who volunteered their time to allow our students the opportunity to compete. Without your commitment, our students would not have the opportunities they do. Thank you to Mr Shah, Ms Woodword, Ms Whitton, Mrs Whitfield, Ms Kirk, Ms Nash, Mr Selimovic, Mrs Cain, Mr Rhodes, Mr McCaan, Ms Markey, Ms Mortimer, Mrs Batson, Mr Miller, Mr McLaughlan, Mr Hollier, Mr Davatzis, Mr Kwong, Mr Lim, Ms Thompson-Boyd, Mrs Swilks, Mr Strong, Mr Wilson, Mr McIntosh, Mrs Sanguinetti, Ms Deely, Mrs De Beer and Mr Clayton. Thank you to Brentwood’s wellbeing team for providing many of your placement students to support our staff members.

Term 2 sports on offer for those students who would like to get involved in interschool sport are AFL, Badminton, Netball and Soccer. For the Senior students only, they also have Hockey and Basketball.

Cross Country is also happening in term 2. If you would like to be part of the cross country team, start training now. More information will be available on the sports noticeboard in the Gym.

As the weather turns colder, we must remember to wear warm clothes to PE and sports days. Brentwood has a navy sports uniform and students need to be wearing navy track pants (not grey, not black). Hoodies are not part of the sports uniform either. Student should be wearing the rugby jumper and their school jacket on the cold days.

Have a great break over the holidays and get ready to get involved in Brentwood’s sport program in term 2.

EMR Swimming

After Brentwood’s success at the Monash Division Interschool Swimming, Brentwood had a strong team of swimmers who competed at the EMR Swimming Championships, on Tuesday March 23, at Aquanation in Ringwood.

EMR is a tough region to compete in. The quality and level of swimmers competing is outstanding. There were 25 individual events and 5 relay teams that had Brentwood swimmers in them.

Vivian Lam won the Bronze medal in the 16 years 50m Breastroke.

Our 12-14year Medley Relay team won the Bronze medal – Jarrod Si, Golden Bao, Dylan Lam and Jamie Weinbergs.

Dylan Lam won the gold medal in the 14 years 50m Breastroke and has qualified to compete at the SSV State Championships on April 22 at MSAC. Best of luck!

Well done to all students who competed. We are proud of all your results.
