Open Boys Rugby League - Thursday 27th of July

What an exciting sports season it has been for our talented GIHS athletes! Today brought an exhilarating event as the Open Boys Rugby League team faced off against Kingsgrove High School. This match was a crucial part of the University Shield, a statewide tournament featuring the top 16 schools. It's truly impressive that both Glen Innes and Kingsgrove have reached this level of competition.

 

The game was a nail-biter from start to finish, showcasing the incredible skills of both teams. The final score was 22-18, with Kingsgrove securing their spot in the top 8 playoffs. A big round of applause to Kingsgrove on their victory!

 

We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who made this event possible. A big shoutout goes to the players and their families for their dedication and hard work. They form a vital partnership that drives our student athletes to strive for excellence. Moreover, we couldn't be prouder of the way our boys represented themselves and our community with true sportsmanship.

 

A special thank you to the dedicated staff at Glen Innes High School who go above and beyond to support school sports. Let's give a round of applause to Scott Miller, Ameliah Levy Blair, and Richard Taylor for their outstanding efforts. We also want to acknowledge Brad Field for umpiring, Dylan Chaffey and Brooke Klingner for managing the lines, and Ally Crossley for ensuring League Safe protocols were upheld during the game.

 

The support from our community was truly heartwarming. We had cheers and encouragement coming from all corners, including the Magpies Rugby League Club and the Council. A big shoutout to all the Glen Innes supporters who came out to cheer on our boys – your energy and enthusiasm were infectious!

 

This game will surely be a cherished memory for our GIHS boys. Congratulations once again to all involved!

Cross Country Update - Wednesday 26th July

We have some incredible news to share with all of you. Our very own superstar, Kayden Elliott, has secured a spot in the Athletics NSW Cross Country Team. Kayden will be representing our school and competing at the Nationals later this year. This achievement is absolutely wonderful, and we couldn't be prouder of Kayden's hard work and dedication.

A huge round of applause and congratulations to Kayden! 

 

This recognition is well-deserved, and we're thrilled to see our student athletes reaching such impressive heights. Stay tuned for more updates as we cheer on Kayden in the upcoming Nationals.

 

 

Under 15's Netball Team: North West Knockout - Tuesday 25th July

It was a thrilling day of netball action as our Under 15s Netball team showcased their skills in the North West Knockout tournament, playing three intense matches. The young athletes displayed determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

 

The results of the three games were as follows:

Vs. MacIntyre: The team started the day on a high note, securing a well-deserved victory with a final score of 21-13. Their excellent performance set the tone for an exciting day of competition.

 

Vs. Inverell: In a challenging match, the team faced strong opposition from Inverell and, despite their best efforts, went down with a score of 20-56. They showed resilience and determination despite the tough competition.

 

Vs. Guyra: The team bounced back impressively in their third match, dominating the court and winning convincingly with an outstanding score of 36-2. Their teamwork and skill were on full display.

 

The success of the event wouldn't have been possible without the support and dedication of various individuals and organizations. The local council and Steve McAllister played a crucial role in making this event possible, and their efforts are greatly appreciated. Hosting the tournament at the Indoor Sports Centre in our town added to the excitement and convenience for all involved.

 

The visiting teams and their coaches deserve a big thank you for their participation and competitive spirit, contributing to the overall success of the tournament. Special recognition goes to Kristen Bailey, who not only assisted with the organization but also served as an umpire, ensuring fair play and adherence to the rules. Jennie Coldham's work as the scorer was invaluable in keeping track of the games' progress.

Community support was heartwarming, with parents and family members dropping in to watch the girls play, even if just for one of the games. This sense of community and togetherness truly made the event special.

 

As the day concluded, it was announced that Inverell would progress to the next round of the North West Knockout tournament. Congratulations to them on their achievement, and we wish them the best of luck in their future matches.

 

In the end, the event was not only a showcase of talent and athleticism but also a celebration of the community coming together to support our young athletes. The Under 15s Netball team's efforts and sportsmanship are commendable, and we look forward to more exciting matches in the future.

 

Our GIHS girls were a ‘stand out’ group in the way they played and conducted themselves. They are certainly developing nicely as netball players.

GIHS Cross Country Squad - Friday 21st July

The GIHS Cross Country Squad delivered exceptional performances at Eastern Creek last Friday, leaving a trail of success and commendable achievements in their wake.

The team's collective efforts were nothing short of remarkable, with each member giving their absolute best on the track. Their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship were truly exemplary.

 

Among the standout achievements, Kayden Elliott secured a coveted GOLD medal in the 16s Boys category. His outstanding performance has placed him on the verge of a Nationals Selection, pending confirmation. Kayden's dedication to his sport has truly paid off, and he has set a high standard for all aspiring athletes.

 

Another noteworthy achievement was the qualification for Nationals by Mary Arandale. Her relentless commitment to training and impressive performances in the lead-up to the CHS event at Eastern Creek earned her a well-deserved spot on the Nationals roster. Mary's accomplishment is a testament to her dedication and perseverance.

 

The GIHS Cross Country Squad is an exceptional group of young athletes who have made both their school and community immensely proud. Their achievements reflect not only their talent but also their unwavering commitment to their sport. Even Chevy Cooke, who was absent during the group photo session, received recognition for his contributions, and a cheerful snapshot of him was captured today.
