Principal's Report

Principal Network Meeting

On Thursday, our Regional Principals, along with Chris Bice (Director of Education Northern Tablelands), attended Glen Innes High School for the quarterly Principal Network meeting. It was a valuable opportunity to gather and discuss various important topics. During the meeting, we covered updates to the school's budget, the Rural Access Gap, Health and Safety measures, Staff Well-being initiatives, Secondary Timetabling, Class Share, and Learning and Well-being strategies.

Contacting your student while at school

The Departments new phone policy states that student are not allowed to have their phones during school. We would like to remind our families that if you are needing to contact your children while they are at school, it will need to be done through the Front Office. Every classroom has a phone, therefore we are able to get messages directly to your child; if the message is private in nature, we can facilitate a private call. As such, if your child is caught with their phone in any capacity, repercussions will occur. This includes any correspondence using devices to facilitate office actions such as checking out, collecting items from the office, etc. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we introduce these new changes.

School Leadership

The process for selecting School Leadership for 2023/2024 is currently underway. We would like to express our gratitude to all the students who have applied. It is truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of so many students who wish to represent their peers, and contribute to the growth of our school community.

Uniform Policy Adherence

I would like to reiterate the importance of adhering to our school’s uniform policy which plays a significant role in maintaining a positive and disciplined learning environment at Glen Innes High School. The Department of Education, P&C and SRC support the wearing of school uniforms by students, and the upholding of high standards of dress by all students. Students who continue to wear clothes not deemed suitable without reasonable explanation will be placed on a ‘Loss of Privileges' list and an email sent home. Students placed on this list may have the following privileges withdrawn:

*  Attending sporting excursions

*  Attending school socials

*  Attending non-mandatory excursions

*  Viewing sporting events held at school

*  Playground restrictions

Students can easily avoid losing the above privileges by wearing full school uniform daily. A copy of the uniform policy and expectations is available on our website: https://gleninnes-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/school-uniform1.html. If you require financial assistance or would to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact me.

NAIDOC WEEK

NAIDOC Week this year was centred around the theme 'For Our Elders', celebrating and paying respect to all Elders, honouring the important role they play as cultural knowledge holders and leaders in the wider community. We hope all students and faculty enjoyed the various activities throughout the week, paying tribute to our Elder's past and present. Thank you all who were involved in planning, organising and attending!
