たなばた Tanabata Star Festival

This week, students have enjoyed celebrating the Japanese Festival of Tanabata (The Star Festival). Tanabata takes place on the 7th day of the 7th month when, according to legend, the two stars Altair and Vega (which are usually separated by the Milky Way) are able to meet.

Prep students created a paper craft showing Orihime and Hikoboshi (characters based on the two stars) meeting on the Milky Way on July 7th. Grade 1/2 made paper lanterns- a traditional Tanabata decoration and Grades 3-6 created their own Tanzaku (Tanabata wishes) to hang on our bamboo trees.
