2B

By Kimielle Vecchio

2B are focusing on poetry this term. To start off, we enjoyed playing a rhyming game! We also found that many poems rhyme. Even some of the picture books in our classroom have rhymes in them!

We were then introduced to couplet poems. Using our Spelling Inquiry skills, we realised that couplet has the word couple in it. We decided that it must have something to do with two things. Mrs Vecchio was impressed! She explained that a couplet poem only has two phrases that rhyme. Mrs Vecchio first wrote a couplet poem about her favourite food, potatoes! She wrote, “Potatoes can be many things. They’re so much better than onion rings!”. Then we had a go writing our own couplet poems.

Mrs Vecchio explained that couplet poems can be used in lots of different ways. For example, Dr Seuss uses couplet poems in Green Eggs and Ham. Even the packaging for Haribo bears has a couplet poem! Their slogan is “Kids and grown ups love it so… the happy world of Haribo!”. We enjoyed learning about couplet poems! They are really fun to read and write!
