School Council Report

School Council Report

Welcome back to term three! The School Council met at the end of last term (19 June), discussing a wide range of topics that are of interest to the FPS Community.

Reconciliation

The Council discussed various items relating to reconciliation, including supporting staff to develop reconciliation educational initiatives and a reconciliation action plan, and installing acknowledgement of country plaques on both FPS campuses. We discussed the role FPS has in the Voice referendum, noting the difficulty of presenting facts without opinion. In fact, the Department of Education has requested that schools be neutral and non-persuasive when discussing the referendum.

New Specialist Program

Along with standard approvals (Year 6 camp, subcommittee reports and trivia night – tickets on sale soon!) Council discussed the exciting news that a new specialist subject would be offered from 2024. We are all looking forward to the many opportunities and interesting topics STEM will bring to FPS.

Council Minutes

Following advice from the Department of Education the Council decided that the School Council minutes will no longer be publicly available on the FPS website. Anyone interested in reading the minutes can request to do so at the office, sensitive information will be redacted before being released.
