News from One/Two

Welcome to the end of Week 3, Term 3.

Once again it has been a busy learning environment in the 1/2 classroom. On Wednesday the children played a great Math’s game in which they showed the multiplication facts using arrays. The children below thought outside the square!

Over the next few weeks, we will be focusing on the children participating in skip-counting challenges. Learning the actual timetables comes later in Grade 3 so timetables are NOT a class focus but skip counting will be. The Year 1 challenge is to skip count by 2,5 and 10s. The Year 2 children’s challenge will be skip counting by 2,3,5,10's…and if they want to push themselves into skip counting the 4’s that would be amazing.

A super challenge is to skip count by 2's, 5's or 10's from a random starting point like 17.

Here is a great video that we will be using in the classroom to practice this skip counting.

During Week 4, your child will be given a Soundwaves login (these will be distributed and should be in your child’s bag) and a drum roll please… if you have not already, you will be sent a Seesaw login via your email. Yes, you will be pleased to know that finally 1/ 2 TF has started Seesaw in our classroom.

Seesaw is a way in which you as a parent can see the amazing work that your children have been doing in the classroom and celebrate their successes. We aim to have 1-2 pieces uploaded every 2 weeks for you to peruse your children’s amazing work. Please let us know if you have not received access to Seesaw by the end of next week.

Newsflash... the 1/2 children will be performing their whole school assembly on the 14th of August. Be sure to come and be part of the fun. To help us out if you have anything GREEN that your child can wear on the day then please sent this into our class labeled with their name. Thank you!

Thank you also to all the parents helping their children with the weekly spelling. Please remember there is a spelling achievement chart (if you would like your child to gain some incentive for completing their daily spelling). Just tick off the chart each night that your child completes their spelling and send it in for a stamp on Friday.

Just in case your child has mislaid their online spelling login then here are some instructions to access the Soundwaves games:

  1. Go to https://online.fireflyeducation.com.au/services/student_login
  2. Put in the code toss001
  3. Click on your child’s year level and they can start playing
  4. Have fun!

Please be in touch if you have any questions. Thanks for supporting your child with their learning.

Kindly,

Jacqui Tarquinio
