Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of St Brendan’s,

Welcome to Week 6 and another busy week at St Brendan’s. Our school has been humming with focused learning and lots of interesting activities.

Welcome New Students

Today, we were delighted to welcome Ella B (Year 4 in 3/4B) and Max B (Year 1in 1/2 T)  and their family to St Brendan’s. They have moved from Ringwood North and are making their new home in Somerville. We hope you all  feel welcome and  that you settle in very soon.

Kelly Nash Body Education

Last week, we welcomed Kelly Nash to St Brendan’s. Kelly facilitated three human development sessions for students and their parents. We were delighted to see that these valuable and age appropriate sessions were well attended. Kelly will work with our Year 5/6 students on three separate occasions during their class time. One important feature of Kelly’s work is the skilful manner with which she encourages children to talk, to wonder and to ask questions of  their parents. She then supports parents with accurate information and terminology to support the developing child’s learning. The feedback from the parents who attended was extremely positive.

Year 1/2 Mass

Celebrating Saint Mary of the Cross(Mary MacKillop) and Mary the Mother of Jesus.

What an absolute privilege it was to attend last Thursday’s Mass that was lovingly prepared by our Year 1/2 team and their students. The children through their reading, prayers, singing and artwork led our school community to know more about Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint.

We were delighted to have our parish priest, Father Shymon celebrate this Mass with us. It was also lovely to see so many parents come to Mass to celebrate with and support their children. My sincere and grateful thanks to all concerned.

Camino Pilgrimage 2023

Last week, I met with all classes to discuss what pilgrimage means. As we met in class groupings, I posed the following questions:

  • What is a trip?
  • What is a journey?
  • Is there a difference between the two?
  • I introduced the new term, ‘pilgrimage’
  • We discussed where the Camino is
  • We discussed the challenges of walking long distances day after day
  • We discussed the tangible object, a pebble, as the item I will carry with me on my journey
  • All students and staff at St Brendan’s will also have a pebble that they will hold during their class prayer time. We discussed the connection we may feel when all hold our pebbles and pray.

Senior Parish Sports

It was an absolute delight to attend our Senior Parish Sports last Wednesday at Western Port Athletics Track. I extend my thanks to our wonderful Ange Seaburgh for her excellent coordination of our talented and beautifully behaved students. It was an absolute pleasure to see them all participate, support and encourage each other. Thanks must also go to the teachers and L.S.O’s who worked hard to support our students on the day. Thank you to the many parents who also came to assist or support our students. Thank you also to Tina Lunney (Co head of Campus Padua Tyabb) and  the Year 7 and 8 students from Padua Tyabb who ably assisted the teaching staff and parent helpers. Finally, thank you to Gab Espenschied,  Emily Reed and the staff and students of St Mary’s Hastings and St Joseph’s Crib Point for the competition and the community we all shared on the day.

Have a wonderful week.
