Visual Arts

Creative Creatures

Learning Intentions:

We are learning to use a variety of materials to create an effect.

We are learning about the use of contrasting colours.

We are learning to critique a work of art.

In this unit students will use The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan as a launch pad to explore imaginative drawing techniques. Inspired by the book, students will draw original creative

creatures of their own, which they will frame, display and discuss with the class. Students will explore different materials and learn how to create the illusion of texture and form on a

2D surface. They will develop creative thinking skills by exploring how new ideas can be generated. Finally, students will reflect on what it means to be influenced by an artist and

identify how their work has been influenced by the source material.

Dance

Lanterns and Lions

Learning Intentions:

We are learning to identify styles of dance and choreography across cultures.

We are learning to collaborate and choreograph a dance sequence.

In this unit, students will explore cultural elements of the Moon Festival (also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival) celebrations through a range of practical and engaging

skill-building dance and movement activities, culminating in a scaffolded performance piece.

Drama

Learning Intentions:

We are learning to understand voice, body movement and character.

We are learning to create and perform an improvised scene.

We are learning to perform designated roles within groups.

In this unit, students ‘open the door’ to collaborative script writing. The sequences provide many practical and engaging opportunities to practise the elements of drama along the way.

Media Arts

Stop Motion

Learning Intentions:

We are learning to explore media arts works for different purposes.

We are learning to create a storyboard.

In this unit students will collaborate to create, produce, and screen a stop motion animation to represent uniqueness and a sense of self.
