WELLNESS WEEK

College Captain - Erin Winstanley

This week the captains launched a new initiative. This was known as Wellness Week.

As we know in recent years the prevalence of mental health challenges has spiked among adolescence.

With this is mind – as well as knowing that positive mental health plays a fundamental role in our ability to thrive as individuals – the captains aspired to launch an initiative that recognises the importance of mental wellbeing for both staff and students.

After the conclusion of Wellness Week and Blue Day, we hope that we can create a safe and supportive environment, that breaks down the stigma of asking for help and promotes open conversations about mental health.

The week began with "Letters of Affirmation and Gratitude" and were displayed in the school for the entirety of the week. This activity helped us build self-love and share our gratitude with others who have helped us to do so. Followed by Tuesday, which was Just Dance, this didn’t fail to get those endorphins going to boost our happiness for the rest of the day. Wednesday and Thursday we stopped and relaxed with mindfulness practices and a movie day.

Finally, the week concluded with the well awaited BLUE DAY! The day was full of awareness for mental health but also fun and celebration. Splashes of blue were seen all throughout the school – from face painting and ribbons to blue socks and jumpers. We raised money for the Beyond Blue Foundation, through a student run sausage sizzle and bake sale.

We also had some very special visitors from Molly’s House and St Anthony’s, who contributed to the contagious spirit of the day. The rock band took it home with their high energy and catchy tunes. It sure was a fantastic day, and one to remember!

I truly believe this week and especially blue day brought together our community and #MERGEDTHEMAROON (or should I say blue), reminding everyone of the support that lies within the foundation of the college.
