Principal's Report

Dear parents,

Parent Teacher Meetings

Thank you for your attendance at the parent teacher meetings this week. This is always an important point in the year to touch base with your child’s teacher as we move into the second half of the year.  We appreciate your flexibility in attending in person during our work hours.

Parent, cargiver and guardian opinion survey

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Further details will be sent out later this week.

School Crossing Safety

I’m making an impassioned plea to you all to be extra careful and follow the road rules at pick-up and drop off times.  Unfortunately, we witness unsafe behaviours most days such as students crossing outside of the school crossing areas, parents completing U-turns in the middle of or near the school crossings and parents calling students across the road outside of the crossing areas.

I worry about the consequences if we have an accident at the front of our school.  Smith Street in particular, is a dangerous road.  The downhill nature of the road leading toward the school in both directions on Smith Street increases the likelihood of drivers speeding along there. We regularly see cars travelling in excess of 60km/h and we know of people being booked in excess of 80km/h along that road.

Please help us decrease the risk of accident by using the crossing and turning your car around away from the crossing areas.

School Fete – Planning Meeting

Preparations are underway for our school fete which will be held on Sunday the 12th of November.  I invite you to attend our next planning meeting on Friday the 4th of August at 9:00am in the JCB.  We will be discussing the organisation and preparations for this event and we’re looking for volunteer support and new ideas to make this an amazing community event.

Working Bee’s – Saturday 2nd September 9am-11am – Bourke (Green) and Curtin (Blue) House Families

The school council is committed to enhancing our community connections this year and we have re-formed our building and grounds team and will be hosting a working bee each term for the remainder of the year.  The next working-bee will be held on Saturday the 2nd of September between 9am and 11am with a morning tea provided at 11am.  We’re planning to plant out and mulch the front garden beds in front of the main school building and down the side with ground covers.  Other tasks that we hope to achieve are tidying up the yard, weeding and mulching gardens, ivy removal and blackberry removal.

We are inviting the families of children in Bourke and Curtin House to come in term three and families of Hume and Mitchell to join us in late October, term four.  If you’re up for attending both, you’re more than welcome!

If you would like to be a part of the buildings and grounds team please contact the school.

Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time),

Matt
