Bombers Drop In

Our Year 3 and 4 students had a fantastic time working with Jayden Laverde and Brent Stanton from Essendon Football Club during a skills clinic held here on Tuesday 16 May. Our K-6 leaders, Mr Rudge and Ms Deshon were privileged to have lunch with Jayden and Brent, which was provided by the Year 12 Food Technology students. The leaders enjoyed asking questions regarding leadership, training and all things football.

The Adventures of Richie

Our Information Technology Expert Richie has been very busy during Term 1 and 2.  Richie is a humanoid robot who loves to share his knowledge and show off his impressive dance skills.  So far this year Richie has worked closely with Mr Hindson, Mr Hickingbotham,  Ms Deshon and our Year 9/10 Multimedia and Robotics classes.  Richie has also been visiting our Primary classes helping students learn about e-safety. He made a special appearance at our recent Open Afternoon Showcasing Years 7 and 8 demonstrating his downball skills.

Camps

Year 12 PDHPE -  Our Year 12 PDHPE students travelled to Geelong for a three day camp conducting physiology activities. Students went Sea Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding with Go Ride A Wave and took took part in Eye in the Sky at the Victorian BioScience Education Centre in Geelong. This exposed students to leading edge GPS Athlete tracking equipment, including real time feedback systems measuring distance, speed and heart rate.

Another highlight of the Year 12 PDHPE trip was the opportunity for the students to meet elite netballer Maddie Robinson. Maddie is currently the Collingwood Magpies captain and has played for the Australian Diamonds numerous times over the past 10 years. The students listened in awe as she spoke from an elite athlete perspective.

Year 8 Camp - Our Year 8 students had a great time away on camp. Among other things, students went surfing, tackled the high ropes course, took night walks and visited the Twelve Apostles site. The cold and rain didn't stop these campers!

Year 5 Camp - Our Year 5 students ventured to Cave Hill Creek Campsite at Beaufort near Ballarat. The camp included a day at Sovereign Hill with an evening show of 'Blood on the Southern Cross' and a trip to Lake Wendouree Adventure playground. Over the camp the students participated in canoeing, low ropes, bouldering wall, bike riding, map reading and much more!

Supporting our Local Community

Teddy Bears Picnic

If you went down to the soundshell on Friday 3 March you were sure of a big surprise! For every bear that ever there was gathered there for certain, because it was the day the Teddy Bears had their picnic! Congratulations to our student committee and Miss Sophie Moylan who did a fantastic job organising and running this community event!

Shrove Tuesday

On Tuesday 28 February pancakes were in high demand! Our Primary and Secondary students were able to purchase pancakes with all funds raised going towards Anglicare.  Also, Mrs Pinson's Year 8 Food Technology students designed their own pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.  A special thank you to our parent volunteers who helped out on the day!

Homelessness Sleepout

Some dedicated students and staff committed themselves to our inaugural Year 10 Sleepout for Homelessness overnight Thursday 22 June.  It also happened to coincide with the coldest nightly temperatures recorded so far this year! A hardy group of 15 students and 5 staff braved the intense cold to experience the difficulty of sleeping rough, and to learn more about the issues of homelessness in order to be informed and engage in community conversation.

Excursions

Year 11 Agriculture - Agriculture students visited The Strawberry Pick, where they discussed the role of soils, plant growth and pest management with Wayne and Matt. A favourite part of the trip was picking and tasting the amazing strawberries!

Year 9/10 Agriculture - As part of their studies our Year 9 and 10 Agriculture students visited the Crossman’s Avocado Farm to observe the running of a commercial property.

HSC Music and Year 11 Drama - students enjoyed their excursion to Melbourne to see a performance of Kinky Boots at Her Majesty's Theatre. Drama students furthered their understanding of characterisation, dramatic elements and theatrical conventions utilised in a theatre production. Our HSC Music students who were studying the topic, ‘Music Theatre’,  watched, analysed and discussed the live musical performance. Students were also lucky enough to have a private Q&A session with cast member, Jess Condon after the show!

Year 9/10 Forensics Incursion - Our Year 9/10 Forensic Classes took on the roles of detectives for their incursion. Their task was to solve a crime by gathering all the evidence. Under microscopes they investigated finger prints, shoe impressions, blood splatters, fibres and much more!
