Year 9 City Explorer Day

On Friday 9th November, the Year 9 cohort headed off to the city of Melbourne for their City Explorer Day. Prior to the day, students had spent an afternoon planning in their groups with their teacher. Soon enough, with MYKI’s topped up, maps and instructions given out and groups in charge of navigation decided, the students were set to explore our great city.

The students had to navigate and travel around Melbourne’s CBD in their groups, with staff hovering in the background unless their help was needed. Different groups visited sites including Parliament House, The Docklands area, Captain Cook’s Cottage, The National Art Gallery, The Queen Vic Market, just to name a few exciting places. At each venue, students had to answer set questions; some straight forward, some with a bit of a cryptic edge to them. For those who worked quickly and collaboratively, plenty of time was available for a nice lunch and the chance to explore what the greatest city in the world has to offer. The students behaved impeccably and enjoyed their day of exploration, working with students they may not have worked with before, visiting new places that they may not have previously been to, and for some, travelling on public transport for the very first time. A happy but exhausted bunch of Nazarenes were back at Dandenong Station by about 3:00 pm and looking forward to the weekend.

Rocket Launch!

Year 10 physical Science Launched Rockets on Friday 9 November to continue to learn about motion. Pictured with His group's rocket as it takes off is Ronan Lobo, and the same rocket once the parachute was deployed. All rockets launched successfully, but no all deployed their parachute and so came crashing to ground a little faster than the class hoped.
