Careers News

As the year is coming to an end, there are lots of opportunities being advertised for holiday workshops or revision sessions to help Year 11 and 12 students to kick start their year. Have no fear, they are in January so you can have a rest before you start thinking about next year’s study. It is imperative that students maximise their chances of success by being prepared and accessing opportunities available to them. This is one way to reduce the stress that so many senior students suffer from. Another upside is that is shows selection officers and relevant faculties from these Universities your commitment to both your studies and your future career goals. This goes a long way when you are applying for further study. Please see below for what is available to sign up for at the moment. Stay tuned for anything else to become available (this is likely to be emailed to students)
From Monash University for Year 10 and 11 students doing Visual Communication next year
There will be an Art, Design and Architecture summer camp at Monash University in January for 3 days that will give an insight into studying and working in the creative arts. You will stay for two nights in one of Monash's residential colleges and all meals and activities are free. This is open to students who will be studying Year 11 or 12 Visual Communication next year and Nazareth can nominate 5 students to participate. See Mrs O'Brian or Elena for more details
VCE Summer School at University of Melbourne –for 2019 Year 11 and Year 12 students
The University of Melbourne is holding a two week summer school tutoring program from Monday 7th -Friday 18th January for students going into Year 11 or 12 next year. With small class sizes, it is a wonderful opportunity to get a head start on VCE. All subjects can be catered for. Cost is $220. Please see Elena if you are interested in more information.
Lastly, The Change of Preference week (December 14th – 19th) is a terrific opportunity for students who have not gone to Open Days through the year, to visit Universities and speak to lecturers and selection officers form various faculties. You can also book a One –to- One appointment to assist with guidance through your options. Visiting a range of Tafes and Uni’s is the best way to get a sense of what type of environment is right for each individual. Many talk about wanting to go to Monash but which campus? Not all areas of studies are done at Clayton (this campus is so huge it has its own postcode) –there is the tree lined, leafy small campus in Peninsula where you would study Nursing. Or the high rise, sterile environment at Parkdale where the faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences are taught. Or the down to earth, more relaxed Caulfield campus where the Monash Business School and MADA (Monash Art Design& Architecture) reside.
Please see the dates and times that these universities open their doors during the COP week.
Good Luck to all in the coming weeks with exams and Fast Start – an exciting time
Cheers
