LIBRARY

OPENING ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2018

Welcome back everyone!

For the first semester the library will be available for students to use before school (8:15am - 8:45pm) and after school (3:15pm - 4:30pm).  Students are asked to return books to the library during these times. For the period of the building works the library will be a Year 12 Study Centre during class time.

DID YOU ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY READING?

Holidays are a great time for reading.  The library allows students to borrow over the holidays, however now all those books are due back.  Notices have been emailed to students, so please, do the right thing and return your books and let others enjoy them!  Students with overdue books will have restrictions on their borrowing.

“GET INTO READING KIDS”

This was the heading of an article in last Sunday’s Herald-Sun.  “Parents urged to do more to help” was the sub heading.  The article said the simplest way to do this was for parents to get their students off screens and into books. Digital parenting expert Kristy Goodwin was quoted as saying that increased screen time contributed to poorer literacy skills among children. Education minister Simon Birmingham said parents need to take an active role in their kid’s literacy.

How to Get Into Reading a Book

If you're the kind of person who doesn't much like reading or finds getting beyond the first few chapters of a book a bit of a chore, you might just be missing out on discovering why books matter. Reading is one of life's escapist pleasures, it's a way of discovering things you never knew and meeting the minds of other human beings without having to actually converse. Why give up these wonderful opportunities just because you've convinced yourself that reading's hard work?

To get into reading a book, and making it all the way through, try these illuminating suggestions.

1. Choose a book that interests you.

2. Allow yourself to go overtime if you do start enjoying yourself.

3. Commit yourself.

4. Choose wisely.
