Marian Catholic College participated in this year’s Australian Mathematics Competition, on Thursday, August 1.

The Competition started in Australia in 1978, was the original, and is now one of the largest of its kind in the world. More than 40 countries participate in the AMC each year and is recognised as an international benchmark for mathematics performance.

The Competition consisted of 30 questions, 25 of which were multiple choice questions, and 5 questions required a number answer. Duration of the test was 75 minutes.

2019 MATHS WEEK CELEBRATION

The college will celebrate Mathematics Week from August 5-9 . As in the previous years, the whole week is full of different activities that will provide opportunities for each student to enjoy the many applications of Mathematics in their daily lives. Each student is encouraged to enter at least one of the activities set for the week.

The theme for this year’s Maths Week is : You are more than a Number !!!

Some activities line – up for the celebration include the traditional Bake a cake/cupcake contest and the Song and Poem Contest. We will also have Brain teaser competition and mobile construction at the beginning of each Maths lessons.

Unfortunately, we cannot have the Maths Problem Solving Challenge for all Years 7-10 classes in the hall where each group of each year level will compete because of the Year 12 Trial Examinations. However, it is up to your Maths teachers if students can have this activity in your own classes. The group that will generate the most number of points will win the competition.
