Student Representative Council

It has been an exciting start to 2018-year for our Student Representative Council . We were successful in the application to be involved in the VicSRC Teach the Teacher Ignite Program for 2018, we have also attended the Grip Leadership Conference in March and our planning and actions are underway for free dress day events and community awareness campaigns. Our enthusiastic year 7 to 12 SRC meet every week with the School Captains and committed teachers, Mrs Corrie, Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Holt and Miss Murphy. Our highlights so far have been when visiting Vic SRC Project Manager, Mel Gaylard delivered the introductory session and session one of the Ignite, Teach the Teacher program. At the introductory session Assistant Principal Shaun Doherty also contributed by sharing important data findings from last year’s Student Attitudes Towards School survey. This has helped the SRC focus on an issue worth pursuing to present to the teaching staff later in the year. The VicSRC Ignite program allows our SRC students to speak up and create some serious change as well as to develop the student's personal leadership, communication and problem solving skills and a greater understanding of teaching and learning.

Many thanks to the VCAL team and students for organizing the morning tea and serving up a great CAFÉ lunch for the SRC planning day which was successfully held on April 19th 2018. A big thank you also to Jackie Woods for being involved in the Year 7 interviews and Nicole McCrae for creating certificates of recognition for the SRC.

The SRC team of McClelland College from year 7-12 attended the GRIP Leadership conference at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on Tuesday 13th March. The GRIP leadership program stands for: Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity and People, four values that create a team within the school environment. Students and teachers were required to take part in workshops that discussed ways to become better leaders; contributing positive changes as a team, transforming integrity and school pride. We also learnt some fun new activities the SRC members are excited to bring back to share with our cohorts at assemblies.

Huge Congratulations to Caitlyn Taylor, Year 11 Representative on her scholarship to attend Vic SRC 2018 Congress

Caitlyn applied and was successful in her scholarship application to attend this year’s Vic SRC three-day congress. This is a huge achievement and so exciting for Caitlyn and we wish her all the best as she attends this acclaimed event with other SRC students from schools all around the state. We are looking forward to hearing from her later in the year on what she learns and gains from this experience.

Youth Environment Summit

The year 7 & 8 student representative council (SRC) members visited Frankston yacht club for an environmental leadership conference. The conference highlights how youth across Australia learn from one another and lead change for environmental challenges, while contributing to local and national issues and concerns. The students completed hands on activities and learnt how to lead sustainable change within the school.  The Frankston council and Frankston high school worked with students on the day as they completed an outdoor workshops and presentations. Our students fully involved themselves in the day and they left keen to share what they learnt with other students. The day was a huge success and it will be good to see the SRC return to McClelland with fresh ideas and environmental opportunities.
