VCAL PROJECTS

VCAL students across all three year levels have begun creating projects and planning for their Term 3 collaborations. Intermediate and Senior students have started thinking about their big personal projects for Semester two and should be having conversations at home to get motivation. Please, talk to your students and help them to initiate new and exciting ideas for their VCAL projects. Some of the photos here show students busy at work during Term 2. If you have your own ideas about work that VCAL students can undertake, get in touch with us!

WORK PLACEMENTS

The hardest part of VCAL for students is finding a work placement that they can undertake one day each week. If you know of any people in our local community who would be willing to take on a school-age student for developing their employability skills, please get in touch with one of the VCAL team.

The work placement days are:

Year 10 – Friday

Year 11 – Tuesday

Year 12 – Thursday

We have started Community Service days for those students who have not begun a work placement yet. This week Jaidyn Davis, Kayden Ranson and Liam Baumann turned up to fill in a work placement expression of interest form an complete some much needed office administration and laptop maintenance. Check Compass each week to see if your student needs to attend the Community Service days at school. If so, they will complete an hour of work (cleaning rubbish, washing windows, office admin) and then spend an hour completing resumes and contacting a possible work placement option. Your support with this program is vital. Students should also be filling in their SWL logbooks each week.

BUNNINGS BBQ

At the beginning of term, a group of enthusiastic students conducted a Bunnings BBQ to raise $455 profit for VCAL projects! Hooray! Thank you to Kloe Tisdell, Braden Loxton, Brandon Downward, Sonya Cooper, Cody Carter, Keith Morris, Marylee Beehag and Ellie Boyes.

ATHLETICS DAY

VCAL Senior students were farewelled in traditional style at the whole school Athletics Day last week. It was an enjoyable day and our VCAL boys even beat the VCE students in the 400m! Well done!

KHPS

Year 11 students get their turn at completing work at Karingal Heights Primary School this term. Each Friday, one of the groups attends the school and complete maintenance and project work. Their first visit saw them going in to classrooms to meet some of the students and improve on their communication skills. Their next visit will see them painting the chill-out space, weather permitting! Students may wear free dress on these days but must make sure it is appropriate, warm and parents are aware that they may get a little dirty.

The next visits are:

Group 1 (V03) – May 18th and June 1st

Group 2 (V04) – May 25th and June 8th

Make up Session – June 22nd

VCAFE LOGO COMPETITION

During term one the year 10 VCAL VET Business students held a competition for students at McClelland College to create a logo for the VCAFE. There was great participation from each year level which resulted in a big number of entries. We have since then tallied up the votes and have decided on a winner. The winning design was created by one of our year 12 students Macy Cochrane.

We have also awarded a peoples choice award.

This logo will be framed and hung up in the VCAFE.

Thank you to all students who participated in this competition.

MRS DUBOCANIN

We said a sad farewell to Mrs Dubocanin last week as she goes out on maternal leave. Suzie is a much loved and respected member of the VCAL team who goes out of her way to make sure students can access their program and complete assessment to the best of their ability. She will make a fabulous Mum and we look forward to meeting the little bub!

Love and Learning,
