From the Principal

Dear Parents,
Welcome to another edition of ‘Living the Good News’.
On Wednesday of this week, we gathered for the first time under our expansive and impressive Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA). The purpose for our gathering was Ash Wednesday liturgy. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, which continues for 40 days before Easter. Throughout the Lenten season, Catholics fast, abstain and do good works in preparation for Jesus’ Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

As part of our liturgy on Wednesday, our foreheads were marked with ashes in the shape of a cross to humble our hearts and remind us that life passes away on Earth. The cross also tells those around us that we know we are not perfect; they serve as a sign of our need to turn back to God. The very moving occasion can be seen by this video created by Sister Teresa.
The ashes that are used on Ash Wednesday are obtained from burning the palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, that commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. The palms are blessed with holy water, and then sit in burning incense to give them a scent.
With the above in mind, I leave you with this closing prayer from Wednesday’s liturgy
Dear Lord,
Be with us during this season of Lent. Bring us closer to You and help us change our lives as we prepare for the great feast of Easter. We ask this and all our prayers in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
St Luke - Pray for Us
Amen
Many Blessings for the days and weeks ahead
