House Swimming Carnival

McCormack House

On Tuesday 13th of February we had our annual Swimming Carnival. We were blessed with weather, warm enough for a swim but not too hot to sit beside the pool. The attendance of McCormack students reflected the team spirit – simply superb.

All of the McCormack Tigers were involved in achieving our goal. Some were taking photographs, others were messengers telling the competitors that they needed to get ready for their event and most were taking part in the events, signing up as the day progressed, if not in the swimming pool, then in the out-of-water events such as the Tug-of-war (I think this event was most popular among our Year 12 students!).

Smiles everywhere. Kids enjoying themselves everywhere. And the result – brilliant! We WON!

Thank you to all McCormack kids – for their participation, team work and efforts.

MacKillop House

On Tuesday 13 February, we all gathered at the Noble Park Aquatic Centre for our 2018 swimming carnival. There was a definite sense of excitement in the air as the MacKillop students assembled into our House area. After a few words of inspiration to get us going, the day’s program began and our MacKillop students began preparing for their various events. The beautiful blue sky and the sunny weather was just perfect for what was to be an enjoyable day. Although MacKillop did not win the overall competition, it was still a highly successful day, with great student participation in all events. We witnessed some amazing individual efforts by MacKillop students and a fantastic team spirit through enthusiastic cheering by MacKillop students, who were aptly adorned in our red House colour. Well done team MacKillop.

Knox House

The swimming carnival this year was by far my favourite, and one that I won’t forget. Being a Year 12 Student this year, I was extremely excited to see everyone partake in cheering and boosting the Knox house spirit, but mainly to see everyone getting involved and having fun. Whilst I was amongst Knox house in our designated area and our Knoxies were swimming, I was in awe of the support our Knox house was giving out. The positive spirits and smiles from the cheer squad made Knox house feel like a family as we all came together to provide appreciation of those who had just swam for our house; expressing our friendly and inviting nature. Because of the and happy  and encouraging Knox atmosphere, we had students from all different year levels interacting with each other throughout the day, and it was especially nice seeing year sevens talking with people outside their year level too. You could also spot those in our Knox house from a mile away, as everyone was dressed in purple, with added accessories like headbands, ribbons, flags and glitter to enhance the house spirit even more, making an effort to show their Knox identity, a house we are all proud of! Towards the end of the swimming carnival when there were a few races left, that’s when Knox house really came together. All of Knox were cheering and making loud noises, filling the swimming centre with chants and claps. No one was intimidated to shout for Knox house, the louder we got, the more empowered we felt to cheer even louder. When we were awarded the house spirit award, I knew we deserved it because of the dedication from our cheer squad and the relationship our house had built together to receive that award. Ayana: The swimming carnival was a lot of fun this year. We had the opportunity to participate in different kinds of events. The atmosphere was really great and Knox all joined together to win the House Spirit award.

Malshani: This year the swimming carnival was a great success allowing almost everyone to participate and earn house points. It was extremely surprised by the excellent participation and effort put in by all of Knox in all events including cheering on other students. It felt great to have everyone cheering!

Anna: The house spirit, participation and enthusiasm displayed at this years swimming carnival made it the best yet! It was fantastic to see people of all year levels and swimming abilities getting involved and enjoying the day.

McAuley House

With it being my last year at Nazareth, it was nice to experience such

an interesting new twist on the annual Swimming Carnival. Personally,

I thought it was great and it was the most successful one yet. I saw

individuals who avoided swimming at all costs jump into the pool and

have a go; whether it was for 50m freestyle or the noodle race. The

novelty events (in and out of water) were a swell new addition, the

access to the waterslide was really exciting and fun for everyone and

it gave everyone something to look forward to. However, I must say the

icing on the top of the cake was the Year 12 novelty race and having

the Year 12 boys throw Mr McAleer into the pool with one huge effort.

It was truly a fun filled and enjoyable day and I am certain it will

be one of the highlights of my memories here at Nazareth.

Chisholm House

The Nazareth College House Swimming Carnival has made some alterations this year, which includes novelty events, a water slide and non-swimming events, instead of just a normal swimming competition. Also, the whole school is there to participate, instead of half of the school

We need to congratulate all Chisholm students who contributed to our House being so successful for the Carnival by coming third overall and coming first in the Senior division. It was a fantastic achievement.

Many of our younger students swam well above their age groups displaying their House spirit commitment and support of our House.

Our House encourages participation and trying your personal best. It is not all about winning!

Well done Chisholm House!
