Please take some time to read over the Term 2 Overviews. The Overviews contain information regarding the learning that will occur in each year level and Specialist classes this term. We have published the Overviews on our School Website so that you can refer to them throughout the term.

Condolences

We were deeply saddened to hear about the recent loss of Mal Orr's mother, Joyce Divine. Please keep Mal in your prayers during this difficult time. An email was sent out to families earlier this week with funeral details.

Art lessons will be replaced by Helen Walker next week.

Staffing

As mentioned in a Newsletter edition earlier this term, Amy Burns will not be returning as the Mathematics Leader in Semester 2. Annabel Coome has been appointed to lead the Prep-2 team in Mathematics and Charlotte Biggs will lead Year 3-6 beginning next week. An email has been sent to families of 2C and 6B with details of release time.

Mother's Day Events Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning we will begin our Mother's Day celebrations with a breakfast in the school hall from 8-9.15am. We have had a huge response from the Caremonkey form so I'm sure it will be buzzing.

We will then begin a mass at 9.30am over at St. Peter & Paul's church.

The sellout lunch will begin at 12pm down at The Railway Club Hotel. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to these events that are always a success at Galilee.

Morning Assembly/Routine

As stated in the newsletter last week, next week we will be trialing a new morning routine from Monday through to the end of the term.

Please see the changes below:

Monday: students will line up on the basketball court in their class lines as usual and we will have a morning assembly; sharing news for the upcoming week.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: a ‘first bell’ will ring at 8:45am and classrooms will open, students may choose to go directly to their classroom or stay on the yard. At 8:50am a ‘second bell’ will ring indicating the start of lessons. Attendance will be taken at 8:50am and any student arriving after that time will be considered late and must be signed in via the Office. Music will play just before the second bell to remind students to start moving to their classes. Parents are permitted to walk their child into the classroom.

Friday: Open Morning as usual; families and students are welcome to enter the classroom at 8:35am. At 8:50am a bell will ring signifying the end of Open Morning and the start of lessons.

Chess

Chess Club has now moved to Monday lunchtime. If you have any enrolment queries, please email David Topol topchess29@gmail.com

NAPLAN

Next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday NAPLAN will take place for Year 3 & 5 students. Information was sent out in last week's newsletter.

Parents Battle of the Bands

The D.O.G.S Parents’ Band is participating in a ‘Battle Of The Bands’ with 6 other local primary schools including St. Kilda Primary, St. Kilda Park Primary, Elwood Primary, East Bentleigh Primary, Gardenvale Primary & Ripponlea Primary.

The Parents Battle of the Bands will be staged at the Prince Bandroom (29 Fitzroy St, St Kilda) on the 23rd May, 2019. This is an all parent event with the funds raised used to expand the musical education programs and improve facilities for participating schools & help further our children's musical education. All proceeds will be redistributed pro-rata of parents’ attendance/number of tickets sold by each school so please support our wonderful school by purchasing tickets and sharing the event with your family, friends and neighbours – the more tickets our school sells, the more money we will raise for our school!

It promises to be a fun night.

Punctuality to School

At Galilee our expectation is that pupils are in their lines/classrooms at 8.50am. Therefore those students who enter the school grounds after 8.50am are deemed late and must sign in at the office before going to class.

Lack of punctuality affects learning and behaviour not only of the pupil who is late, but it has an impact on all other learners. The teacher is often required to recap on missing learning for those who arrive late and this reduces learning time for the rest of the class. We understand parking can be difficult but please try to ensure your child is at school before 8.50am each morning.

The students annual disco will be held in the Church Hall.

Year Prep-2 from 5-6pm

Year 3-6 from 6:45-8pm

DOGS Golf Trip

Through a mix of rain, wind and sunshine, the DOGS inaugural Golf weekend took place at RACV Cape Schanck over the weekend of May 4th & 5th. It was great to have dads of children across the all grades at the school represented and varying levels of golf skill attend. For a majority of the guys in attendance it was the first time they had swung a club in many years and it showed! However, the weekend was not about shooting low scores. Through a mix of jokes, assisting each other in looking for lost balls, encouragement and sledging the camaraderie was built.

Highlights of the weekend include:

The last group of golfers on the Saturday getting a par in pitch darkness;
One of the dads finding his ball at eye level, wedged in a tree;
On the last putt of the weekend one of the dads draining a 30 foot putt;

The DOGS were also very proud that they managed to raise $250 for the school purse, which will be donated to the school in due course.

School Fees

The second instalment of school fees is due by June 13th. A Late Fee has been introduced in 2019 which will be applied to each late instalment.

Families experiencing financial difficulty are always catered for, if they communicate with myself or Wendy. Some families have not reconciled 2018 school fees without communication and as a school, this leads to a lot of lost revenue and can hamper the future implementation of programs for all students.

We ask families to please be on time with fee payments, set up a direct debit or meet with myself if experiencing difficulty in paying.

School Closure Day

A reminder Friday 31st May will be a school closure day for students. Staff will be completing another module from the Berry Street Program.
