Year 6 Graduation Night

The Year 6 Graduation was earlier this week. I’d like to thank Virginia Beshara and the other Year 6 teachers, Joe Doyle and Erin Fullerton for their work and efforts in preparation for the night. Also a big thanks to the dedicated team of parents who have also spent many hours organising and preparing for the disco. Your decorations looked wonderful.  I would also like to acknowledge the input of all the teachers, support staff and most importantly, the families who have been so influential during the educational journey of these outstanding Year 6 students. Farewell to you all and best of luck with your secondary education. All the best and we will miss you!

 

Christmas Concert

Thanks to Dan Slater our performing arts teacher for organising another fun Christmas Concert last Thursday. Well done to out students for such enthusiastic performances. Also thanks to Fleur Craig from our parents association for selling choc tops on the night as well at the Connaughton family and friends for running the delicious "Institute of Smoke" burger stand. Thanks to all our families and friends for coming along the support the night as well. 

 

Prep Orientation Morning

A Great Success! Last Tuesday morning, we held our final Prep Orientation session for the year. In addition to meeting their Year 6 buddy for next year, the new students played games, enjoyed stories and participated in craft activities. Thank you to Maddy Gallagher our prep level leader and our other prep teachers who have been involved with the Prep transition program over this term. 

 

Parents Association

Congratulations and thank you to our Parents Association for the tireless work they do for the school. This year, the Parents Association have raised just approximately $10,000 This is an outstanding amount and we thank you all for your efforts. These funds will go towards our new playground project commencing next year. 

Welcome and Farewell

 A number of families will conclude their association with Wheelers Hill when their child finishes this year. Our best wishes go to these families for their support and assistance over the years.

 

To students who are leaving Wheelers Hill for a range of reasons, before the completion of Year 6, I wish you well at your new schools and I hope you and your families will look upon your time at Wheelers Hill Primary School with good memories.

 

Next year we will welcome a number of new staff to the school.  I would again like to welcome to our school in 2020 Mis Fiona Pham who will be teaching in Year 5, Miss Amelia Robison who will be teaching in Prep, Miss Danielle Greco teaching in Year 2 and Miss Karina Ison who will continue teaching in Year 2 as well.

 

Farewell to Nicholas Roberts who has picked up an integration aide role at a nearby school. Thank you for the amazing work you have done over the last two years Nick. Your work at the school has been greatly appreciated by everyone. Thanks again!

 

Extended Holidays

If your child/children will not be at school during the first few days or weeks of the 2020 school  year (for example Chinese New Year or an extended holiday) you must inform the school in writing. Please pass this information on to either your child's teacher or the office. The school is accountable for student attendance and it it is your responsibility to let us know in writing of these absences. If you have any queries please contact the office.

After School Clubs

After school clubs will commence in Week 2 of Term 1 which is from Monday 3rd February.

Classroom Parent representatives who help teachers organise activities, special lunches and provide communication links with parents and school.

 

Our wonderful Parents Association, School Banking team and Book Club helper Voula Perides. Thanks for all your help over the years Voula!

 

Our Out of School Hours Care and Vacation Care team led by Sharyn Veale.

 

John Arboit for the maintenance support he provides for the school.

 

Our DEECD computer technician, Justin Simmonds and our own technician, Andrew Sinclair for their invaluable expertise in ICT. Also to Nathan Stockton for his invaluable knowledge and expertise this year, especially with the BYOD program. Welcome to Loreto Briones who has taken over Justin's role.

Our dedicated, invaluable, expert and hard working assistant principals Leasyl Richards and Katrina Spicer. 

 

 I would also like to especially recognise and acknowledge the efforts of our teachers who work so hard day in day out. Only teachers or their partners and families truly understand the level of commitment that is made for our students. Many hours are spent unseen, working on and developing the curriculum and activities to provide the best educational experiences possible for children at Wheelers Hill PS. Thank you all again for a wonderful year at WHPS. 

 

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Thank you again to all members of the Wheelers Hill community for your support, good wishes and gifts of appreciation throughout 2019. As the school year comes to an end, I would like to wish all our students and families a very Merry Christmas. I hope you all have a relaxing and safe holiday break and I, and all the staff, look forward to seeing you back at school in 2020. Happy holidays everyone!
