Principal's Report

Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s day to all Dads in the McCarthy community! I trust that your special day is spent with your daughters and sons in the family unit and that your great kids, who are also our wonderful kids, appreciate your love and sacrifice. Have a wonderful day! Interestingly, Father’s Day began as a primarily religious observance. As a traditional Catholic holiday celebrating fatherhood, Father’s Day has been recognised in some way dating back to the Middle Ages. Traditionally, Father’s Day took place on 19 March, which is the date the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of St. Joseph - the Father of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. His example of sacrifice as a father reflects the potential daily sacrifice our Dads have made and continue to make in our homes to ensure our kids get the physical, emotional and spiritual sustenance to make them fine parents themselves someday.

Queensland Catholic Music Festival

Without taking anything away from the report written later in this newsletter by Mrs Swan, I highly commend the wonderful effort of the College Bands and Ensembles that competed in the QCMF in Brisbane last week. By exposing themselves to high quality performance and competition they test the metal of their hard work and practice in the cauldron of critique and in a larger talent pool from across Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania. Well done to Mrs Swan and Mr McNeill for their expertise in leading the tour and performances, as well as Mr Northey and Mr Saban for donating their time and effort to drive the buses and trailers from Tamworth to Brisbane.

Walkathon 2019

We pray that all of our hard work and preparation will reap some appropriate rewards for our drought stricken families and businesses as we countdown to Walkathon 2019 on 6 September. Many Mentor Groups and Staff have been fundraising through raffles and competitions to boost the tallies before the big day. City schools have been contacted and we pray that they too can support such a worthy cause and rise above our 2018 figure of $15 000. Photos and reports will be presented in the next newsletter, as well as the results of McCarthy’s Got Talent!

All Contact and Deliveries through the College Office

Please be reminded that all contact and deliveries for students should come through the Administration Office.  Sometimes students forget things and need to have items such as a lunch box or assignment delivered to College. These must be delivered to the College Office. Parents are not to deliver these items over the fence or enter the College grounds at any other point. Our duty of care demands that we monitor all contact with students during the day.

Staffing News

I extend a warm welcome to Mrs Lisa Smith who commenced recently as one of our Aboriginal Education Assistants. Mrs Smith brings a wealth of experience in catholic education and is an innovative practitioner in supporting aboriginal students with their learning. We are privileged to have her join our community.

Welcome

We welcome the following students to the McCarthy community: Lanna Collins (Year 10) and Ashlee Collins (Year 7).  As a community, we hope that their transition has been a smooth one and that they are enjoying the McCarthy community.
