Unity Coding and Gaming Masterclass Workshops

Coding, virtual reality, augmented reality, computational thinking and digital technologies are the future of our next generation.

On 15 August, 43 students from Year 7-11 participated in a Masterclass learning to Code and produce a computer game developing it with Unity Software.

Students were fast tracked in learning skills of the Unity Software to design and produce their own computer game and virtual 3D world. Students were introduced to a range of concepts such as creating 3D worlds, coding artificial intelligence and coding characters, cars and planes. Participants learnt how to write code to create spawn points, detect collisions, add keyboard and joysticks controls, and a range of skills to create their own game.

Students commented on how they enjoyed the current relevance to their world and how much fun the course was, adding that they would look forward to another day being planned. McCarthy will continue to build on the skills and learning developed at this workshop.

Ms Hodges is investigating bringing another advanced course to McCarthy and/or introducing a coding/gaming club at McCarthy open to all students. For further information, please contact Ms Hodges for more information.
