Foundation (Prep)

What a wonderful start to school it has been for the Prep children! They have had a very smooth transition from kinder to school and were excited to start full days this week.

School Photos

A child's first school photo in Prep is a treasured keepsake. It is lovely to see how much the children have grown when we reflect back in Grade 6. School photos this year are scheduled for Monday, 28 February.

Numeracy

In Maths sessions this week, the children have continued to learn the correct formation for some of their numbers and have used shapes to make pictures. We built on our understanding of patterns and students were encouraged to create some of their own. The children challenged themselves to show their understanding through a drawing task and then explained their pattern to the teacher.

Handwriting

We have continued learning the correct formation of our letters.  The style of writing taught at school is called Victorian Modern Cursive. If you would like to assist your child with their handwriting, but do not know what the letters look like, just Google the name and you will find the upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet, plus the numbers.

At this early stage, we often refer to the letters by their sound (phoneme), not just by their name. This is very important, so that the art of blending letters into words can be introduced early on.

This week we revised letters a, c and d. I have also introduced the letters o, g, s, f and q

these letters are part of the same family because they all start in the same starting position. All of these letters require the same anti-clockwise direction when forming them correctly.

Hockey Clinic

After seeing the senior students playing hockey on the oval on Wednesday, the children  were thrilled to hear that they would also be involved. Even the most hesitant children had a go and everyone ended up having a great time. Thanks to Lachie and Bev for being terrific instructors. Please find more information about the Hockey program in your child's reader bag.

Buddies

A highlight this week has been being able to see our buddies. We were grateful to the Grade 6 students for taking care of us as we transitioned to play times with the rest of the school.

Mrs Dyos came to visit our classroom on Friday. She played the guitar and we had a fun time singing some songs together.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week.
