Latest News and Reminders

Welcome to the 2022 school year.
It has been beyond wonderful to have all of the students and staff back onsite. In order to maintain clear communication with parents regarding COVID protocols, Bernadette Rae has been the central port of call for our families and staff at health@killester.vic.edu.au and has been doing a terrific job in the role.
All EdSmart slips, for the foreseeable future, will include a statement to parents informing them of the location of excursions and that location's COVID protocols that we will follow. This will include the upcoming Year 11 and 12 Retreats and the Year 7 camp.
Be Sun Smart.
We are at that time of the year when UV levels are high. Whilst some sun exposure is necessary for the production of Vitamin D, over exposure carries a risk of skin and eye damage. Sun protection times can be found at the Bureau of Meteorology website and real-time UV levels are available from the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency on the Sun Smart website. Let's all be Sun Smart!
Collection of students
Parents are reminded that students should be dropped off at the Rosemary Ave entrance and not at Springvale Road. Please, do not stop in front of the school in the peak hour traffic. This is not only dangerous but also illegal as it is a clearway.
Events
We were very pleased to have all of the annual school photos taken on the students' first day back and the weather was kind to us. Today looks to be another wonderful day weather wise, so the Swimming Carnival promises to be a terrific event for everyone.
We have the Year 8 Water Safety day coming up on next Wednesday, Feb 16. An EdSmart slip has been sent to parents regarding this excursion.
The Opening Mass will be held at the Springvale Town Hall on Tuesday 22nd February, followed by lunch on the oval. We look forward to this covid-safe gathering of the school in such a large venue.
Year 7 Immunisations will be commencing soon so parents are reminded to please return their cards to the office or to Homeroom teachers.
Best wishes for the coming week.

Killester College congratulates the above students who have been recognised for their work in honouring our veterans and the Spirit of Anzac.
The Shrine of Remembrance Young Ambassadors Program allows Victorian students to work with veterans and the wider Victorian community.
In 2022, Killester College will have two representatives in this program - Amelia M and Talya T. We congratulate both girls on their appointments and we know that the spirit of community service and recognition of those who have served the nation is in good hands.
Jasmine H has also been selected as a recipient of Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize. She will receive a $2500 educational scholarship for her poem Fallen Anzac which told the story of just one of thousands who fell during World War I.
To celebrate Jasmine's achievement, a presentation ceremony is planned at the Shrine of Remembrance on Friday 4th March. Well done to our amazing young ladies!

Front Office Reminders
LEAVING EARLY – If your daughter is leaving school early for any reason, please make sure she has a signed note from Parent/Guardian to give to her Homeroom Teacher in the morning. Your daughter needs to then bring that signed note with her to the Front Office at the time of her departure. It is your daughter’s responsibility to come to the office at the time arranged for pick up. Students are NOT PERMITTED to make their own way home or to an appointment. A Parent or Guardian MUST come into the front office to pick up the student. Students are asked NOT to make contact with Parents/Guardians directly via their mobile phone, to arrange to go home while at school as use of their mobile phone is not permitted. This contact will be made by Front Office or teaching staff.
LATE TO SCHOOL – Please make sure your daughter signs in at the Front Office if she is late to school. If she does not sign in at the Front Office you will receive an SMS asking to explain her absence.
ABSENCES – If your daughter is going to be absent from school for any reason please make sure you ring the Front Office to inform them, preferably before 9.00 am. The Front Office staff will then mark your daughter’s roll accordingly so you do not receive an SMS.
