ANZAC Day School Awards

Killester College is the state winner for Victoria for the ANZAC Day Schools Awards (see https://anzacportal.dva.gov.au/research-education/competitions/anzac-day-schools-awards/winners).

Killester College's entry had several creative elements. Students researched and prepared activities to share with the younger students from a nearby primary school. Their activities were designed to help primary students understand the importance of commemoration. A local veteran also joined the school community to share his experiences."

Both the VCAL students and Humanities students of 2021 worked to successfully complete ANZAC related activities within Killester College and at St Joseph's Primary School.

Scavenger Hunt

by Itrat Zahra, Senior VCAL

The senior VCAL class arranged a scavenger hunt for the Year 7s. This was a great opportunity for the students to learn more about the school and figure out their way around the school. It was also a fun beginning of high school life for them.

The arrangements included class discussions, finding ideas and questions, printing out, planning the groups and a prize for the winning homeroom. Figuring out easier ways to explain and help the students out was the main challenge for the senior VCAL students.

The challenges were mostly in questions they had to answer. However, to find the answers they had to walk around the school and ask questions that seemed to be very helpful for boosting their confidence and self esteem.

Overall, I think it was a great success. The way the year’7 were running around the school and the big smiles on their faces said it all. They enjoyed it very much.
