Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear families,

Welcome to the 2022 school year, a year we hope is much more settled than the previous two. I hope you all had the chance to enjoy the Christmas holidays and spend quality time with family and friends.

It was fantastic to welcome all the students back last week and see the excitement on their faces as they caught up with friends and began their school year. The Year 7 students were particularly excited, and I am sure a bit anxious as they began their secondary school journey in the newly renovated Mercy Wing.

We are all aware that the transition from primary school to secondary school can take time and is not always smooth. We have a great team of teachers in Year 7 led by our Year 7 Coordinator Mr Jarmin Paddick and the six homeroom teachers. Please don’t hesitate to contact them if your son or daughter is finding the transition particularly difficult as there is always lots we can do to help.

Along with welcoming new students, we also welcomed 12 new staff members. I have included a table below introducing our new staff and the area they will be working in.

Our new Deputy Principal, Ms Rachel McGennisken, has also made the move to Colac and is busy getting to know how the school operates and more importantly getting to know the people who are part of our school community, including our parents/carers.

We believe we have been able to recruit a group of talented and caring staff to Trinity College and are very excited to see the value they will add.

Like always, the year has started at a frenetic pace. Swimming trials took place last Friday, this week we have already had our Presentation Assembly, Commencement Mass for Year 11 & 12 and our Year 7 students have already headed off on camp. Coming up next week on the calendar is school photo day and our House Swimming sports.

During our Presentation Assembly we acknowledged and celebrated the achievements of our 2021 cohort of students. Most of the student awards were announced either at Year 12 Graduation or during the various assemblies at the end of last year, however, we felt it was extremely important for the entire school community to get the opportunity to recognise the efforts of the students and to also invite representatives of the community in to present the awards they sponsor.

The message we want to repeat to our students is for them to be and do their best both in and out of the classroom. The difference Trinity College wants to make to the students who are enrolled here is centered on their development of skills, character, and knowledge. We want all our students to apply their best effort to all that they do because we know that if they do that then success will follow.

I would like to thank the Year 7 parents and carers who were able to attend our remote information evening last Thursday. While we were hoping to be able to invite families in for a face-to-face event where they could also visit the Year 7 homerooms and meet the Year 7 homeroom teachers, COVID restrictions prevented this.

While the remote version is never quite as good, we hope the information provided was useful and I would encourage families unable to join last week to find the time to watch the recorded version that we sent out.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s year level coordinator, homeroom teacher, subject teacher, or anyone else at the school if you have any questions or concerns.
