Support Your Child's Learning on Seesaw
We're excited to again share your child's learning and achievement via Seesaw this year. Seesaw provides our students with their own digital learning portfolio that they use from Foundation - Year 6 to capture, reflect and share their learning. As parents, you'll have a window into the excitement and energy of the classroom with posts that celebrate learning across all areas of the school. You'll also see more formal Common Assessment Tasks (C.A.T) uploaded throughout the year in the areas of Writing and Maths Problem Solving which aims to more continuously report your child's achievement and growth in these areas whilst also documenting feedback and reflection.
What can you do to support this process at home?
- Download the Seesaw Family App via the link in the image.
- Make sure you are connected to your child's Seesaw learning portfolio. During the week of Parent-Teacher Interviews, your child's teacher will provide you with a unique invitation via email, text or hard copy.
- Take the time to read/watch/listen to the work that your child uploads to their portfolio.
- Provide a positive and encouraging comment on the work that your child uploads. These can be brief but it shows that you’re interested in their learning and proud of their achievements.
Please ensure your comments are:
- Positive and encouraging.
- Modelling correct spelling and sentence structure. Please try and limit your use of emojis.
- Specific. Asking questions, or complimenting specific details can add to the learning conversation.
- Directed to your child rather than the teacher. Teachers will not be answering any questions on Seesaw. If you have any questions for the teacher, you may email them directly or organise a time to catch up
- Have discussions at home about the work that your child uploads to their portfolio and talk through their learning reflections and the feedback that teachers provide.
Here are some great comment examples from parents:
- “This is fantastic Alex! I can see how much effort you've put into this task and we're really proud of how much progress you're making. Great work!!
- “Nice work Matilda! Great to see the different methods you have applied as there are often many different ways to approach the same Maths question. Let's talk at home tonight about how else you can practise doing fractions.”
Enjoy the ride and please get in touch if you have any queries.

From the STEAM Captains
Hi, I’m Ruby and I’m Harry and we’re the STEAM captains for 2022.
We are passionate about Science. I love chemical science and discovering why different sources react in different ways when mixed and experimented with (Harry). I love Science because you can’t get anything wrong (Ruby)!
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
11th February 2022
On the 11th February 2022, it will be International Women and Girls Day of Science. This day is created with a purpose of promoting equality for women in the field of Science.
Did you know that in most major science projects, on average only 21% of the research team is made up of women? Furthermore, to add to the gender inequality in the field of science, women are paid significantly less than men for the science work and information that they provide!
Science Competition
To help raise awareness for women equality in science, we will be holding a Hampton Primary School Science Contest.
This is a voluntary competition open to Foundation to Year 6 students at Hampton Primary School!
What you need to do:
At home, think, prepare, create and present a scientific idea.
Some ideas include preparing and recording a 2-minute science talk on any specific topic that interests you, preparing and performing a science experiment at home, creating and innovative resource that benefits our future.
You can complete and present your science knowledge and understanding through photos, posters, videos or bring it to school and do it live with us, your STEAM leaders.
Competitions close: Tuesday 15th February.
Don’t forget - Science includes: DNA, sound, magnets, buoyancy, plants, vertebrates, suction pressure, liquids, heat, rainbows, osmosis and many, many more.
The winners will be able to present their entries at assembly.
Thank you,
Alana (Teacher)
Ruby and Harry (STEAM leaders)
