Introducing our new staff

Over the next few Bulletin issues I will be introducing our wonderful new staff to the community

Liezel Hansson

Ms Hansson taught at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College for 4 years.  She finds the staff at St Helena friendly and welcoming, and learning to navigate all the different software platforms we have.   She became a teacher because she loves seeing the "aha" moment on students' faces when they are learning new skills and knowledge.  Outside of school she loves travelling and exploring and has visited every continent but one.  Antarctica is next on her list!    Ms Hansson teaches food technology, textiles and R3 and is our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) program leader.

Natasha Litterick

Ms Litterick is a graduate teacher, and a graduate of St Helena!  She feels the school has been very welcoming and has made her feel right at home.   Her students have been warm and friendly, and she's already had a lot of fun in her lessons.  She's been impressed by the eagerness to learn shown by so many of our students.    Ms Litterick was able to enjoy her time in high school because of the great teachers she had.  She says she always felt encouraged and supported so she wanted to put her energy into paying this forward.  She loves the subjects she teaches and hopes to spark this love in her own students.

Throughout 2020 and 2021 she picked up a love for sewing and since has become obsessed with dressmaking.  She's always got at least three projects on the go and you can generally find her on the weekend at the sewing machine binging podcasts and audiobooks.  Ms Litterick teaches English and R3.

Helen Trickey

Ms Trickey spent 11 years teaching at Erinbank Secondary College  - with me!  She spent one term at St Pauls College in Altona and then 23 years at Gisborne Secondary.   Her first impressions of St Helena include that the students are polite and responsive and staff are very helpful.  She has noticed that we are very technology driven!  Ms Trickey "fell into" teaching as a career, but found she loved working with teenagers, especially during her first teaching rounds at Erinbank.   Ms Trickey makes a mean pastizzi, but wants it on record that she cannot sing or act!  Ms Trickey teaches Maths and supports students in our MYLNS program.

Leeam Stevens

Mr Stevens is also a graduate teacher.   He has felt supported by his colleagues at St Helena in terms of offering help and expressing empathy about the challenges of a first year teacher!   He says his students are great.  He became a teacher because he wanted to be a positive influence and role model for students, especially those who may not have a positive role model in their lives.   Mr Stevens enjoys many outdoor activities such as camping, snowboarding, surfing and his new found hobby - rock climbing.  Mr Stevens teaches Geography and Humanities.
