Need to know

We've had a really positive start to the 2022 school year.  Although we have been navigating student and staff Covid-related absences, classes are really settled and the school yard is calm.  New staff in particular have commented on how respectful and friendly our students are.

The new uniform is visually more prevalent this year and it's great to see students looking good and feeling comfortable.

Building Update

Surprisingly, the temporary classrooms in the new gymnasium have served us well!  We are on track to open up the new VCE space sometime next week, which is fabulous news. I'm really excited for our students to see it and start learning in this fabulous space - it's got very much a university type feel and the new common room is amazing.  There are lots of small spaces for senior students to collaborate and work with others, and the whole building is light and airy.

Council Election

Information will come out via Compass on Monday regarding the annual College Council election.   If you would like to be involved in school governance, your nomination would be very welcome!  If you have any questions about serving on Council you are welcome to contact me on AskLeadership@sthelena.vic.edu.au

Drop off in the mornings

Please please DO NOT use the driveway at the front of the school!!  It is very dangerous to mix pedestrians, buses and cars!!!  Access via the driveway is before 8 am and after 8.45 am only, unless you need to access the disabled parking spaces.

Students and bikes

It's great to see so many students riding their bikes to school.  Could you please remind them they are not to ride the bikes inside the grounds however.  One enthusiastic young person rode his bike through the staffroom to get to the bike enclosure the other day, giving at least one staff member quite a fright as she ducked out of the way!!

Cleaning issues and toilet paper

The Cleaning company employed by the Department of Education is, like most other areas, trying to manage staff shortages mainly caused by Covid isolation at the moment.  This has resulted in a lower standard of cleaning in the College.  We have asked them to focus on emptying bins and cleaning toilets as the first priority while they are recruiting casual replacement staff.   Sometimes things will be missed when casual replacement staff unfamiliar with our site are on roster.  If students notice that toilet paper or soap in the toilets has not been replenished, or toilets are not clean, please just come and notify the office staff.

Ms de Santis is running after school Maths help in  GM2 on Mondays and Fridays from 2.50 pm for students of Year 9ACE Maths, 10 Pre-Methods and 11 Maths Methods.  Students may stay for as little or as long as they like.
