Posthumous OVA Award to Gavin O'Dea

OVA Heritage Roll of Honour Inductee

The Old Virgilians Association OVA Memorial Mass and Luncheon were held on  November 24 at the St Virgil's College Junior School. The Mass provided an opportunity to remember and give thanks for the lives of Old Virgilians who have passed away in 2021 and join with the current group of Year 10 students to welcome to our ranks as old scholars of St Virgil's College.  The Mass was celebrated by Association chaplain, Fr Richard Ross (SVC 1977-85) who was assisted by acolytes Laurie Newman (SVC 1955-62) and Peter Toohey (SVC 1953-62).

At the Association luncheon following the Mass, Gavin O’Dea was posthumously inducted onto the St Virgil’s College Heritage Roll.  Gavin’s son, Gerald (SVC 1956-62) travelled down from Devonport to accept the award on behalf of the O’Dea family.  He is pictured below receiving the award from the Association chaplain Fr Richard Ross.

Gavin’s story has been chronicled in the August edition of OVAtion when his nomination was first announced.
