Updates from the Sporting World!

Congratulations to Michael Di Venuto (SVC 1989-94) for the part he played as an assistant coach of the Australian T20 Cricket team which won the World Cup final against New Zealand in Dubai on November 14.  His next challenge – retaining the Ashes ... 5-nil!!

Caleb Jewell (SVC 2010-2013) has notched a second career first-class century in the first innings for Tasmania in its Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia at Blundstone Arena from November 21-24.  In the second innings he also amassed a quick-fire 60 off 73 balls to help his team secure a come-from-behind win.  For his contributions he was named ‘Player of the Match’. We wish Caleb well with the Hobart Hurricanes in the current Big Bash series.

Big effort in the recent Point to Pinnacle race by Nathan Morey (SVC 2003-2006).  Nathan completed the 21km ‘climb’ from Wrest Point Casino to the top of Mount Wellington / Kunanyi in a time of 1hour 29 minutes and 34 seconds to finish in fourth placing.  Nathan, a civil engineer, is the President of OVA Southern Saints Athletics Club.

Best wishes to Nathan and Laura Charlesworth who are to be married in early February.  Laura is the daughter of OV Legend David Charlesworth (SVC 1963-71)

Nathan and his older brother Sam are outstanding Old Virgilians and their story was featured in the November 2019 edition of OVAtion which can be accessed on the Association website.
