Prep

The preps have had a marvellous start to Term 4! Not only did they go on their very first excursion in Week 3 (which you can read more about down below), but they have also been very busy with their learning in the classroom.

We can’t believe it won’t be too long now before our prep students will be making the big transition to Grade 1!

Twisted Science excursion

We had a wonderful trip to Twisted Science for the preps’ very first excursion. We all hopped on the bus (which was one of the most exciting parts of the day) and cheerily made our way to Moorabbin.

Once we arrived, students played scientists and had the opportunity to complete a ‘colourful’ science experiment. They were also given lots of time to play and explore all the hands-on exhibits in the different play zones, which were all very popular.

Overall, it was a fantastic day and excursion!

SMART Spelling

The preps have just been explicitly taught their very first trigraph (3 letters making 1 sound); ‘tch’.

Maths

The students have been learning and revising mental computation strategies to help them with their addition and subtraction, including counting on, using doubles and doubles plus 1.

This week we have begun explicitly teaching students about place value, although this is something they are already familiar with from when we were counting our days of school. Students have been learning about the meaning of hundreds, tens and ones.

Important Reminders:

  • Friday 28th October- Student Free Day
  • Monday 31st October- Curriculum Day
  • Tuesday 1st November- Melbourne Cup public holiday
  • Friday 4th November- School Fete (beginning at 2.30pm). Students will be dismissed at 2.30pm on this day. You will need to collect your child/ren from their classroom as students will not be allowed to leave their classroom without a parent signing them out.

Thank you,
