Southern Metropolitan Region Athletics Event

On Wednesday the 19th of October we had 10 students that competed in the Southern Metropolitan Region Athletics event.

These students competed against very talented junior athletes from all around Melbourne. We competed against schools from the Mornington Peninsula all the way through to the city. It is such a huge achievement to reach this level of competition.

All our students gave their best efforts and some of them achieved personal best performances on the day which is just terrific.

Some of our students even got to meet an Australian athletic icon, Cathy Freeman, who was a spectator at the event. They got to have a photo with her and she wished them good luck. It was such a thrill for both the students and myself.

Congratulations:

Riley 6TW-800m/1500m

Portia 6EB - High jump

Noah 6JR - discus

Ethan 6NM - Shot put event

Madi 4AM- Triple Jump

Ashley from 6DC and Kye from 6DC both competed in the 80m Hurdles event

Erinne 5MS- Long jump

Erem 5LH - High jump

Lastly, we had Summer from 5LH compete in the 100 and 200 metre sprint events. I am very pleased to announce that Summer from 5LH placed 2nd in her 100m event and then she went on to win her last event, the 200 metre sprint.

Summer has now qualified to compete against the best 11 year old girl sprinters in all of Victoria at the State Championships to be held at Lakeside Sports Centre, Albert Park next Wednesday the 2nd of November.

Well done Summer! All of Oatlands will be cheering you on. Good luck!

Casey North Division- Senior boys basketball tournament

On Thursday the 20th of October, nine students from Oatlands P.S competed in a round robin basketball tournament at Pakenham Basketball Stadium. They competed against schools from all around the City of Casey. The team played 4 games in total and won each match by more than 10 points. This placed them top of the ladder which meant that they were overall winners of the event and have now progressed to compete at the next stage, against schools from all around the Southern Metropolitan region.

We are so proud of the team not only for reaching this level of competition, but more importantly, the way they have worked so well as a team, the commitment to additional lunchtime training sessions and also the high level of sportsmanship they are showing on court during their matches. They are an enjoyable team to watch in action.

A special thanks to the coaching support team, Nicholas and Mark for their help and knowledge throughout the journey.

We look forward to the next level of competition to be held next week. We wish them the best of luck and regardless of the outcome we are very proud of our team’s efforts thus far.

Congratulations:

Ben 6JR, Nate 6TW, Logan 5LH, Xavier 5KV, Alex 6JS, Farhan 6NM, Will 5MS, Jaidyn 6DC and Cody 6DC.
