Learning Focus:
The term 4 learning focus at the College has been squarely centred around the final few weeks of formal education for the class of 2022. The recent term break was a busy time at school with many staff offering additional study/tutorial session for students undertaking unit 3 and 4 subjects. Thank you to staff who volunteered their time. Final classes are over, and the examination period is in full swing. Good luck everyone!
At other year levels, staff are working to ensure that all concepts and learning tasks are undertaken in readiness for the busy assessment period. Added to this, the junior school is running additional “support” sessions for students needing support accessing and completing their learning tasks.
The term 4 staff focus for teachers is on “collaboration”. Learning Specialist are working on sequence of professional learning that staff will undertake in order to maintain their continued focus on improving their pedagogical practice. This follows the term 3 focus on “questioning”.
Farewell to Class of 2022.
The College farewelled the “Class of 22” at a formal whole school assembly held on October 17. This forum provided the college with an opportunity to acknowledge the cohort as well as thank them for their contribution to the College and its many extracurricular programs. This event was followed by a farewell breakfast on October 18. Here parents, students and staff gathered briefly to celebrate and acknowledgment the end of an era. Thanks must be extended to staff involved in the planning and execution of these events.
Official naming of senior school building: Yanna Mudjirr (Stepping Stones)
On October 11, the college, with the support of the Wurundjeri council of Victoria saw the official opening the senior school building. This new building provides our senior students with access to state-of-the-art facilities, flexible classrooms and study spaces that enable them and their educators to grow, thrive and learn together. Its learner centred design allows for collaboration, individual private study as well as provides a space for young people and community members to gather. It builds pride! Thank you to Will Fowles MP and Tim Richardson Parliamentary Secretary for Schools for their support .
Raise The Roof:
Raise the Roof is a new initiative designed to support the school’s capital works “master plan.” The soft launch of this event, held on October 11, was marked by a gathering of past staff and students. The event provided an opportunity for renewing of relationships, sharing of the college vision and a request for people to commit to supporting this vision as the College moves forward. Many thanks to the steering committee for their work and vision. Thanks to Mr Andrew Philp, Mrs Teresa Lodge, Mr Corey Lucas-Evans and Mr Michael Phillips for their work.
RAISE Program:
On Tuesday October 18, I had the pleasure of attending the celebration ceremony for students and mentors who participated in the RAISE Mentoring Program. This program provides vulnerable young students with access to a trainer mentor over a period of several weeks. The relationship developed between mentor and mentee is unique and provides students with an opportunity to identify and celebrate their strengths as well as build hope for their future. Congratulations to all the participants and thankyou to the Chaplaincy team for facilitating the program.
Camps:
Planning is well underway for the 2023 central Australia camp and the final Duke of Education camp scheduled to be completed in November of this year.
Ringwood Training:
Congratulations to Ringwood Training on the outstanding results they received in the State Student and Employer satisfaction survey. Ringwood Training consistently ranked ahead of state in categories including quality of program delivery, recommendations from employers and student satisfaction. Congratulations to the outstanding Ringwood Training team!
Performing Arts
The 2022 Music Gala was an outstanding event. This event marks the end of the instructional music program for the year with only Band Tour to follow. The calibre of performances was exceptional and provided for a very entertaining evening. The energy and sense of occasion as the live event returned to stage was not left unnoticed. Congratulations to Janine Pero and her amazing instrumental music team.
Congratulations to the College production team on the many nominations they have received for the upcoming Lyrebird and Guild awards. Nominations cover not only this year’s production of “Urinetown” but also include last year’s production of “Grease”. Categories for nomination include technical support, set and costume design, as well as solo and group performances. The sheer number of nominations attests to the quality and calibre of staff, families and students involved the the performing arts at the College. Award winners will be announced later this year. Congratulations and good luck to Karl McNamara and his team.
