Foundation Unit

This week Foundation students learnt about the significance of Remembrance Day and why we celebrate it. Students listened to stories, held a minutes silence and created poppies to display around the school.

In Literacy, Foundation students have been continuing to work on writing recounts and letter/sound blends. Students in JU3 have been visited by their buddies from SU1 who helped them to create Tooth Fairies and Sharks to demonstrate their knowledge of /th/ and /sh/ words.

In Numeracy we have been continuing to use a range of strategies to build our knowledge of subtraction facts. Foundation students have also been learning how to share a group of items equally and read and create picture graphs to represent information.

As part of their inquiry into life cycles, some students investigated how apple trees grow from a seed. It was very interesting to learn that the flowers turn into apples and the remnants of these flowers can still be seen at the base of the apple.
