Humanities
Over the past few months in the Humanities Learning Area, we have seen some great work from students and a continued extension of enrichment beyond the classroom.
Unit 1/2 Legal Studies students applied their learnings to the real world as they participated in a session with the County Court of Victoria. Students spoke to various key personnel at the court including tipstaff, associates, and a judge. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the everyday occurrences at one of Melbourne’s busiest courthouses.
In the Year 10 History elective Turning Points, students were fortunate to be able to visit the newly renovated site of the Melbourne Holocaust Museum. This allowed students to take part in a bespoke education workshop with a specialised educator, drawing on the museum’s rich collection of artifacts and testimony. Students also had the opportunity to hear and speak to a survivor. Thank you to Ms. Parker for organising the day for students. We look forward to returning with students to the Melbourne Holocaust Museum in the future as they continue to further open up exhibits after the renovation.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate Trixie Kneebone, Madeleine Green, and Lucy Bryant on their acceptance into the History Teachers Association of Victoria’s Enrichment Program. These students spent the day in the CBD studying at the State Library with students across the state and will be completing a passion project on their own particular interest in history. Our students were selected out of many other applicants and we want to celebrate their enthusiasm for learning. We look forward to seeing their completed passion project. Thank you to Ms. Wilson for encouraging these students to participate.
