Melba

Welcome back to the final term for 2022.

We trust that all students and families enjoyed the September holidays.

The start of Term 4 is certainly flying along with our Year 12 students already completing the VCAA examinations and year 10 & 11 students busily preparing for their end of year assessment periods.

In the coming weeks, there is much to look forward to for the Melba House students including the VCE Step-Up, Year 9 City Experience, interactive mentor program activities, opportunities to be involved in the transition and orientation programs for 2023 year 7's, and the presentation afternoon.

It has been fantastic to see the majority of students correctly transitioning to the summer academic uniform (despite the weather) and making a positive start to their learning in term 4.

Students and their families are encouraged to read the weekly BHS Newsfeed via Xuno to ensure they are up to date with the latest information.

Best wishes for the remainder of the term.

 Melba Class of 2022

Congratulations to the Melba Class of 2022 who have completed their final year 12 classes and are now undertaking the VCAA examination period.   Melba has been incredibly lucky to have this group of students as members of the house for the past 6 years and we thank them all for their contributions during house events and within the mentor program. These students were acknowledged and congratulated within their mentor groups and during the recent Melba House assembly. They all enjoyed a great final week featuring dressing up in a range of themes and the valedictory dinner.

We are incredibly proud of the way this group of students persisted with their studies throughout the year and wish everyone all the very best with life after Blackburn High School.

Year 7 Leader Reflections

Transitioning to high school is a very special time for year 7 students. I know it was very special for me. Although I was a little bit nervous, I was very excited and ready for this new chapter of my life. I remember my orientation, that was fun. I met so many friendly faces, some of whom I have created great bonds with, people I know that I will stay friends with forever. Another thing that really helped me settle in was the lovely teachers that I know will always be there for me.

One of the highlights for me this year at Blackburn High School was the number of students that participated in Swimming and Athletics. Loads of students joined in exciting races to represent their House and have fun on the days. Something that I loved to see was the costumes that the students wore. It was so fun to see things like jellyfish on swimming day, or telly tubbies on athletics day!

Year 7 was a fun and challenging year. Our classes were exceptional, and we can all agree that what we learned has been amazing. In year 7, a lot of people entered different clubs, such as the indoor sports club, humanities club, and a lot more that keep on coming. Our teachers help us learn in a fun and safe environment. And they are the reason we are all so intelligent in school. Year 7 was one of the most fun years I ever experienced.
