Principal message

Dear community of St Monica's,

We had a good turn out of parents at our prep information night on Tuesday. Thanks to Bron, Max, Belinda, Hannah and Ange for providing information for each group and answering questions about starting prep in 2023. We have 44 new preps beginning next year. Thanks also to Wendy, Vicki and Di who provided childminding to support parents' attendance.

Thank you to Max Lamb and classroom teachers for the provision of PSGs this week and next. This is an opportunity for students with personalised learning plans (PLPs) to meet and review growth based on specific learning goals.

Next week the Parents and Friends will be hosting the election day bbq. Thank you to Kim and her team for organising volunteers. If you are interested  in helping please contact the office.

We have a number of staff leaving this year and we will farewell Eliza McNamara, Jaimee Lee Tobin, Jessica Mangan and Bailey O'Çonnor who are moving on. On behalf of the school community I thank them for their service and commitment to our students and families and wish them well in their future endeavours.

Due to changes in staff and recruitment we are still putting the jigsaw pieces together regarding teacher placement and placement of students. I will be able to inform you in the next newsletter about staff for 2023. Students will meet their new teachers on December 6th.

As  part of the yr 5 leadership course students have been organising lunchtime activities for younger students.  This will help them to identify leadership traits in themselves and others. Next year we will introduce two School captains (girl/boy) and two House captains (girl/boy) for each house. Each role will be open to a girl and boy in order to provide role models for students in earlier years. School captains will be voted by the year 5 students and staff.  House captains will be voted in by the year 3,4,5 students from their house. Nominated students will be guided to write speeches at school and present them at school. Successful candidates will be announced at the end of year mass.

The feast of Christ the King is celebrated this Sunday. This is an opportunity to consider Jesus as 'King of the Jews' which was how he was mocked during his trial and crucifixion. More than ever we are reminded not only of the divinity of Christ but also his humanity. If he was King why didn't he save himself? In order for the resurrection to occur there needed to be death and Jesus' death although not a celebration, makes way for the celebration of hope that the Resurrection gives us as Catholics. This Sunday is a time when we can reflect on how we can help those who need saving? How we can instil hope in those who feel hopeless? Please see RE page for further reflection on the feast of Christ the King.

Warm Regards,
